[font=sylfaen] "Would the next trainers please step up to their platforms!” The announcer called. Thankfully this time he has learned to tone down the mic. Or it could just be the cold. Winter has fully set in this time and the poor ref (and trainers) are about to freeze. The audience is a lot smaller too, apparently the cold was too much for them as well. There is a light snow falling. Creating a sort of enchanted feel.

The two trainers walk out of their separate tunnels, breath leaving little puffs of ‘smoke’ in the air. The quickly walk towards the centre of the arena. They share a quick shake of hands, before heading over to their platforms, which had nice little heaters ringing the edges. The platforms rise once again and click solidly into place.

“On the count of three would both trainers please release their Pokémon! One . . . two . . . three!” I call out.

“Go Nightshade!” calls TML.

“Go Growlithe!” yells Weasel Overlord.

The two Pokéballs burst open to form into a male Kadabra and a female Growlithe. They both let out their calls, challenging one another and waiting for their trainer’s commands.

Okay, I made a mistake with my Growlithe...he's a male and his name is Loren...I forgot! Anyway, I'll start with a Double Team to confuse Kadabra as much as possible. Follow up with a Thief to get in some damage, but try to avoid that Psychic! Finish up with an Aerial Ace, that Metronome could be anything!

TML jumps right in for this battle, "Start off with a safeguard to protect you from those nasty status effects. Then use psychic followed by a metronome. I feel lucky today." Nightshade nods in affirmation.

Weasel Overlord quickly states the correct gender and name for her Pokémon, then states her attacks, "Anyway, I'll start with a Double Team to confuse Kadabra as much as possible. Follow up with a Thief to get in some damage, but try to avoid that Psychic! Finish up with an Aerial Ace, that Metronome could be anything!"

The two Pokémon start off this round by paying absolutely no attention to one another, and quickly forming defensive attacks. Nightshade sets up a shield of spinning glowing lights, protecting against any status ailments. Loren meanwhile sets up a set of three clones, forcing Nightshade to guess who to attack.

The next set has Loren moving in for a Thief attack. Nightshade meanwhile lets out a mental blast of power and dissipates all of the clones, and dealing some damage to Loren. Loren does not stop his run and swipes Nightshade with a paw, finding no item but still deal some decent damage.

The final set has Nightshade starting to wiggle both fingers side-to-side, concentrating on who knows what.* Loren moves in with his Aerial Ace and slamming Nightshade. Nightshade is undaunted however and a second later hit eyes fly open and glow a white colour. Some how he wrenches rocks out of the ground and slams Loren twice with a Rock Blast.

Weasel Overlord starts off this round, "Okay Loren, we'll try to work to our strengths this battle, so start off with a Bite attack! Second, use a Flamethrower and finish up with a Crunch!"

TML replies with, "When he comes in for the bite, use psychic to take control of his body and slam him into the ground. Then fight back with a Psybeam and finally, give him an Iron Tail to the face."

Loren comes at Nightshade snarling, but Nightshade is unconcerned and grabs him with his ample psychic abilities and slams him all around. He drops him after a bit, and Loren whimpers as he lies on the ground for a second. He slowly gets to his feet, his weight off his hind left paw.

Nightshade fires a Psybeam just as Loren gets to his feet. He is sent flying and skids on the ground. He angrily gets to his feet and fires off a Flamethrower in return. Nightshade takes the hit and comes out smoking a little. He looks quite angry, with the smoke rising from his ears, but he is fine, emotionally wise.

Nightshade then comes in with an Iron Tail to Loren's faces as he begins to snarn for Crunch. He hits dead on, but Loren is very angry. He gets up and savagely Crunches on Nightshade's arm, causing him to cry out in great pain.

I always found that randomness was fun, and I loved to see what would appear when a used Metranome. It was always interesting seeing a Pokémon use an attack it couldn't normal learn, and somehow figure out how to do it. "Ok Nightshade, use Metronome again followed by a Calm Mind and Psychic." ordered TML.

Weasel Overlord thought for a second and replied, " Okay Loren, lets start off with a Safeguard to protect you from any unknown effects of that Metronome. Secondly, use a Crunch to do some more damage, but try and get it in while Kadabra is using Calm Mind. Finally, use an Aerial Ace to try and avoid that Psychic."

Nightshade starts off by putting his spoon behind his ear and wiggles his index fingers back and forth. Loren gets prepared for anything and tries to set up a quick Safeguard. He focuses and it the glowing lights seen around Nightshade now surround him as well. Nightshade starts to glow a bright yellow colour, which increases in intensity with every passing second. He suddenly lets out a cry and a fat glowing ball of electricity flies off in the general direction of Loren. Loren however just watches as it zooms right past him to explode on the wall. Loren raises a canine brow at Nightshade and snickers. Nightshade just shrugs.

Loren then immediately sets out with a Crunch attack, wanting to rend skin from Nightshade. Nightshade however is unconcerned and sits down Yoga style and focuses on steadying himself. Loren comes in and grabs the same arm and savagely tears at it, dark energy dripping from his fangs. Nightshade is too deep in concentration to really care and just flinches.

The final set has Loren jumping back from his grip on Nightshade's arm and swiping a paw at Nightshade. The razor sharp blades slam into Nightshade but he still grabs Loren and flings him into a wall. Loren howls as he hits the wall but gamely gets back on his feet.

Loren does not like being slammed into a wall and growls in anger at Nightshade. Nightshade is oblivious to Loren's mumbled threats, and is floating with his legs crossed, on his side of the arena. Loren gets back to his side, limping a little from his double impact with the wall.

Loren's trainer however is quite pleased with Loren's efforts. "All right! Keep up the good work, Loren! I know you can do this!!" Loren stands up a bit straighter, buoyed by his trainers praises. "Let's start off with a Double Team to keep up our defences," says Weasel Overlord. "Follow up with a Sunny Day. That should help your fire attacks. Finish off with a Flamethrower, it won't burn, but hopefully it'll do some nice damage." Loren nods and spreads his front paws out, making his front end lower in a defensive posture.

"Use Shock Wave to destroy the clones and use your newfound focus to deliver a good Mega Kick." says TML. Nightshade gets back on his feet from his meditative position. "Finally, put up a Light Screen." Nightshade answers in the affirmative.

Nightshade waits for Loren to go first, so he can destroy his doubles. Loren doubles as his trainer asks and quickly separates his one form into four more. The five Growlithe's circle Nightshade. Nightshade strikes now and calls upon the static energy in the air. He makes it form around his body for a second before letting it loose in many small lightening bolts. They destroy Loren's doubles and he is left with nothing.

Nightshade strikes again is quick succession. He runs over to Lorena and raises his foot, making it glow bright white. It slams into the small pup's side and send him flying through the air. Loren barks as he hits the ground and skids to stop. He gets up and is breathing in short gasps. His side aches where the foot made contact with him. He licks his side in pain but still manages to howl to the sun. It gets brighter for him, but will not stay so for as long as usual.

Nightshade smirks in satisfaction, even liking the warm rays now glowing upon him. He raises his arms and letting them fall slowly, he makes a yellow screen of energy in front of himself. Loren forces himself to take a deep breath and spouts a great torrent of fire at Nightshade. It hits, but has to go through the screen first. The Sun helped it power deliver decent damage, but not as much as it would have otherwise.

"Take a break to regain your energy, then use tri attack and metronome." says TML, knowing Nightshade is running low on his energy level. Nightshade looks grateful to hear he can take a chill pill for a while.

"You're doing great Loren!" says Weasel Overlord, encouraging her tired, but determined pup, "Let's keep this up. Start off with a Flamethrower to take advantage of the sun, follow it up with a Crunch and then use a Flame Wheel to finish off. "

Nightshade sat down and did his meditating thing, safely behind his Safeguard and Light Screen. Loren meanwhile, fired another Flamethrower at him; powered by the sun it made it somewhat through. The damage but not what it could have been like. Loren looks slightly disappointed.

Nightshade looks disgruntled at the heat, and fires off his own batch. He throws lightning from one hand, fire from the other and ice from his mouth. All three slam into Loren, dealing a good amount of damage. Loren growls and comes at Nightshade, dark energy crackling around his teeth. The Screen breaks some of it down as he goes through however. He chomps, but not to the same effect as before.

Loren jumps back as his attack finishes, Nightshade glares at him, and hopes for a strong attack. He wiggles his fingers back and forth, calling upon any attack to head his call. The next second his fingers become vines and they burrow into the ground. Loren calls up his Flame Wheel, giving him some protection. The vines pop out of the ground, whipping at Loren. They do little damage with having to go through both a ring of fire and Loren being a fire type.

Loren plops his butt on the ground, greatly needing a break after last round. Unfortunately for him, Nightshade does not make it a very pleasant break at all. He grabs Loren with his mind and slams him up and down. Loren yelps each time he hits the ground. When Nightshade finally lets him go, he unsteadily gets to his feet, breathing if very difficult for him. Quite a few rips have been cracked with the multiple impacts.

Nightshade is the one to take a break this round. He starts he meditating, regaining precious energy after the multiple attacks he has done. Loren is thankful he does not have to use his lungs. He sits and swipes a paw at Nightshade. The blades of air slice Nightshade, doing moderate damage.

Loren starts to run at Nightshade to Crunch him painfully but Nightshade grabs his tired body with his mind once again. Loren closes his eyes, and tries to fight it. He does not wish to be slammed about again. Thankfully he is just tossed to the other end of the field, still quite a slam but not as bad as it could have been. He whimpers but gets to his feet, he does not have the energy to run across the field to try and Crunch Nightshade again.

Not to be unkind but I think it's better if you got rid of the intro. You're pretty much right, I didn't read it as it didn't enhance the reffing in any way. It's probably better anyway because it cuts down on the writing

Okay Loren, for this turn, begin the round by taking a break. Kadabra can't get you then and you really could do with one. Secondly, use an Agility. If you get your speed up, you might have a better chance of dodging that Psychic. Finish off by trying to get as far away from Kadbra as possible, then use a Swift.

Both Pokemon begin this round by chillin out. They glare at each other across the arena but they do not do anything. Loren is panting, gain precious energy back, and catching his breath, which had been difficult with his cracked ribs. Nightshade is not looking so hot either and is actually breathing quite hard.

The next round has Loren sprinting away from Nightshade as fast has his legs can carry him. It does work to some degree as Nightshade has problems catching him with his mind. He only manages to get him a little and toss him around lightly. This still causes one of Loren's ribs to break however and he yelps as it does.

Nightshade begins to wiggle his fingers again, calling upon random energies to aid him. Loren, being as far as he can be, fires his Swift attack. It takes a while to get to him though, with the distance. It slams into Nightshade just as he completes his finger waggles. His eyes glow blue and he spurts a tremendous amount of water at Loren.* Given the distance it does less then it could of done, but still quite a lot. It slams into Loren, sending him out of the arena. When the water finally stops he spits out some, and limps back into the arena. His Safeguard fades, and Nightshade is panting very much like a dog.

Nightshade is very happy to hear it gets to take another break and sits down, with no effort to spare for meditating. He just wants to take a breather. He is focused on the battle so when Loren Howl’s he doesn’t take enough notice to stop relaxing. It has ruined his concentration however. Loren gets a much needed boost in confidence, and he looks ready to battle again. He is looking a worn though.

Loren takes a break, sort of in needs of one, but either way he ends up being bounced around. Nightshade grabs him with his ample mental abilities once again and he is slammed repeatedly. He is even stopped Loren from yelping. When he is dropped however barely manages to rise to his feet. He isn’t looking to good, whimpering the whole way up.

Loren tries to get off his last attack but is unable too. Nightshade is quicker and grabs him. He does one final slamming round. When he drops the poor pup he is out cold. Weasel Overlord looks a little put out but returns Loren with appraisals. TML is smiling and congratulates her Kadabra as she returns him. The two trainers meet in the centre of the arena and shake hands.
