If you're challenging a gym leader, you'll need to use one of your own battle slots.

It's possible you read it in the Gym Tower. The rule is that gym leaders get an extra slot that's just for gym battles -- unfortunately, that rule doesn't stretch to those who are challenging them.

Are we allowed to use Event Moves on battles?

I was also going to ask about Move Tutor Moves but I figured out the setting hasn't changed in that if I'm correct.

We can use Move Tutor learned moves from the games, but, on the other hand, The Move Tutor Shop is just for the moves Pokemon cannot learn in the games by Move Tutor. It's just a little confusing, and I want you to confirm this.

I even have a new Pokedex book now and it's even better than my last one.

Define Event moves. If you mean like, a Pokemon that was in a giveaway for B/W knowing a unique move (like Extremespeed Togekiss), then yes because that was distributed worldwide.

Moves on Pokemon given out at the NYPC are not allowed becasue those werent available worldwide

As for the Move tutor moves, you are correct.

Er... according to Bulbapedia, Bagon can have Wish from Pokemon Center Japan Distribution 1. Is it different from NYPC?

This may or may not make sense because my Bagon is Finnish

Hey, I haz a question that I think was already asked but I'm too lazy to look around xD

If a pokemon participates in a battle that is still ongoing, and it has fainted, can you evolve it and use that battle as exp?

Mika: Naw, Bagon can't use wish for that same reason.

Ash: If your Pokemon has fainted in that battle, you can use that portion of the battle as EXP, evolve it, and re-enter it as a new competitor in the battle if you so chose.

O_O yeah, considering it's in a match where the pokemon matchups are chosen before the match starts, I don't think that's gonna happen, but good to know.

    Quick question.
If your in a battle that started before having pokemon approved, are you not allowed to use those pokemon?
I think I've seen this before listed as a "no", but I can't seem to find confirmation. If you could link where it is listed (if it is), I would appreciate it.

You can use it any time after it's been approved, even if the battle started prior to approval.

    Harvest
When a healing move is used, it will double the amount healed.
The Pokemon is quite adept at gathering nourishment for its own use, and can maximize the amount of nourishment it receives from even the smallest amount of food. When it finds it necessary to heal, this Pokemon can maximize its own efforts and gain twice as much as the norm.
    Exeggcute, Exeggutor, Tropius
    From the Stratdex.

I chose this for my Exeggcute over Chlorophyll, but I just want to clarify a few things, since the ability here is different to how it works in the games. Is it only for PURE haling moves, like Synthesis, or does it also relate to moves like Giga Drain. What about Leech Seed?

Good question. Had to think about it a bit. Since the mechanic we thought up was basically if it can heal, it can double its output, the Pure Healing moves would be a no brainer. Never thoughjt about Leech Seed.

So you know what. Let's make it ALL moves that allow a person to heal with the exception of Pain Split (that's an equilibrium move). In this case, this makes Giga Drain, Leech Life and the other Drains moves that give as much health as they take-making them psuedo Pain Splits. I don't think its broken, but now I'm eager to see how well it works.

I think there might be potential for it to be broken, especially when you consider the fact that Giga Drain is already a scary-ass move when used properly. I generally ref a super effective + STAB Giga Drain as doing ~14 HP damage, which means it heals 7 HP normally. With Harvest, a super effective + STAB Giga Drain would heal 14 HP. Use three of those and you've just earned 42 HP in one round, which means your Pokemon has pseudo-immortality in a 40% damage cap battle. On top of that, if your opponent is one of the several Pokemon with a double weakness to Grass... then the healing potential is through the roof. (Also, bear in mind that my damage calcs are modest compared to refs who use a x2 modifier for super effective hits.)

That said, Exeggutor and Tropius have lousy defensive typings, so maybe this would just help to offset that flaw? And there are almost always ways around spammed moves and pesky abilities, so maybe it's not broken after all.

I took super effectiveness into account, and also the distribution of said Ability.

Exeggutor and Tropius are the only ones that carry it, and though they have access to many a grass move-there's still the pesky problems of Toxic and Pain Split and Snatch (ooh Snatching that, hell yes XD), and as you said, the defensive typings, and resistance against grass types moves..it can feel broken in one match, but be a detriment in another if you're just energy stalling.

Yes, we'll see how this turns out, and if it should be limited to only pure Healing moves.

Maybe 1.5x HP restore then; rounded down; instead of double. So if it did 14 damage, instead of getting 7 back, you get 10.

I'd like to join the "Not-nerfing-things-before-they-even-come-out." camp here. It's not like Exeggutor and Tropius are the juggernauts of Grass Pokemon.

And a much simpler alternative to outright nerfing the amount is simply amping up the EN costs of such healing moves, which typically exhaust their users pretty quickly anyway.

Well, like I said Blade. I wanna see how it turns out in that battle first, to see if nerfing it is necessary. 1.5 could work, but we'll do that only after the battle commences.

But Harvest has an entirely different function here than in the games. In the games, it regenerates used Berries, which is why DL and Grey had to think up a new function that works within our ASB. If testing reveals that the new function they devised merits a little tweaking, why is that unfair? There's precedent, even; a similar thing happened with Stall to stop it from being broken.

Um, this has been bothering me for a while. A reason why my battle with Blade is dead at the moment. After posting his or her moves, can a battler edit his or her message if notices something that doesn't work? It seems like cheating to me. I was going to use Agility but then I noticed Larvesta doesn't know it and my whole post went off track!

Well, I'm not exactly sure, and I better have someone to agree/disagree with me, but I think it's pretty much like that. If you edit the move right after you posted it, that'd be okay, but if one of the participants or even the ref saw your posted moves and you edit it afterwards (even worse, after the second battler posted it), that'd be cheating for sure.

Naa. No edit. If you misspell a move, then the ref can usually figure it out.

If you just put down Charge-and you meant Charge Beam, that's a no. :p

If you put Head Crush...obviously you meant Head Smash, and I could work around that-depending if it was use descriptively, of you just just typed out Toxic-Head Crush-Agility

If you just plain put a move down that is not in the poke's moveset, sorry x_x. Happens to me more often than I'd care to admit. Just roll with the punches.
