But I don't look at it. That's the point. I only ever go to the VS. Seeker for new posts which translate into lolpostcount++.
You people would be looking up my info when I never look up yours. No dice. Not happening. End of story.
I do the vs Seeker for show more than anything, and also to keep a running tab of what Pokemon I have, contests I've been in, awards I've won, and the occasional Badge.
However, in important matches (Hence Gym Battles) I tend to look at my opponent a bit more closely and plan out who on my team would be a good counter to what they could throw at me. It's all part of the stratigy.
On the other hand, if it's a regular match, I don't look because it's not as big a deal if I continue my massive losing streak.

What about Trees then Blade. :/ Getting repeat gifts of Pokemon you may not want is not something anyone wants to do, but if they knew what you already have, then it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Its not solely for battling. :/

For the last couple of trees, blade has advertised what he wants coz someone will offer it on a list and he'll go to grab it, except someone else already has.

*NOOB ALERT*
Whats the tree?
The tree is a bi-annual event that allows people to give pokémon, points, and other such things to people. Since it's one of the only times of year you can do this, it's kind of a big deal.

Isnt today the 15th?
So, I came up with an idea today that I thought might be a really good one...
Mentoring!
How it works:
A new player joins the forums. Lets call the Oslo. Oslo picks his team of 4 in the tower, but because he is new, he doesn't know how the rest of the forum works. Along comes a veteran. Lets call them Ayeun. Ayeun has been here for a while, and has a decent team of say 10 or so. Ayeun challenges Oslo to a match, nothing fancy, and in the title of the match, sets it up so that it says [Mentoring] in the title.
A ref comes along, and when Ayeun sends out her first pokemon, she explains in the post how we do things, with things like Banned moves, or good combos, ect. Ayeun also explains to Oslo that he can attack 3 times per round, and that Combos take one attack turn, but then leave him open to attack.
The battle proceeds and as Oslo starts to get the hang of things, Ayeun can start to use some more advanced moves (combos, substitutions, ect), again, explaining to Oslo how a Sub works (in the post that it is done), so that in future, Oslo knows that he can sub in moves.
When the battle is done, the ref and the 'Mentor' offer feedback, explain things, like why they lost, if applicable, or congratulate them on their win, and explain different things, like how to claim the points (with correct HTML coding to link to the fight for the bank), and how to spend the points.
The Mentor, for their services, is then offered a Free catch or a Free evolution for helping develop a new player in our forums.
Further more, if the idea is sucessful, the Mentor and the new player can, after the first battle, enter in to a Tag match up with another Mentor/New player team, teaching both the new players how we work double battles, ect.
Idea?

o.o Muggles will get this one.
I'm gonna toss it out there to the newer folks of ASB. They have a fresh mindset about things and how they work. Would something like this have made the learning curve easier? Do you think this would still aid you?
Also, would the Mentoring guide only be used for one battle?

My thought behind it was, instead of letting the new guys come in guns a-blazing and take up 4 battles off the bat, we let them choose to do that, or take a mentor. They can then pick one from a list of available mentors. If they take the mentor route, then they can only have that mentor battle till they are done in it, but make it only a 1v1 or a 2v2 singles battle.
Also, some kind of incentive to taking the mentor route, maybe double the points the new players receive from their mentor battle, as a start off thing.

Personaly I think its a good idea, because when I got here I didnt know what was going on. (I stilll barely do )
This reminds me of an idea I had not too long ago that was never really addressed. Remember, the training idea?
Blade: Was that the one where we asked for someone who used a specific strategy, so we could get used to those strategies?
Ayeun/DL: I know I've been around a lot longer, but I had no difficulties figuring everything out. Although it took me a long time before I heard about combos (specifically, while I was reffing). My biggest problem was that I hadn't played the games in ages and didn't know moves existed.

why should someone whos been a member for a long time get rewarded extra for creaming a newbie?
coz they taught the newbie how to get creamed. clearly.

See. I didn't actually think anything sus when I wrote it. I was just using the term that papabobb used. You just had to make it dirty, though.
In any case, if the newbies think they need help, then yeah, this works. The other half is that, most of the time, when I introduce someone, I tell them to check out another battle and ask questions.

Papabopp, if you read what I said in the original statement, I wasn't saying "ZOMG GO ALL OUT AND SLAUGHTER NEWBIES. LULZ FREE POINTZ ZOMG!"...
I was saying go easy and help them understand things like combos, and stacking status and sub moves...
Want a simplified example?
Using the above Oslo v Ayeun.
Oslo is attacking with is Munchlax, vs my Gloom.
Oslo decides that using fire punch is a good idea, which it is, so he uses it three times.
I would then decide that I will start with Sleep powder, and explain to him, in the SAME post I did it, that he can set up a Sub move - If asleep, use XXXX. Then, without attacking for this round, I would WAIT for Oslo to acknowledge that he understands how sub's work before we move on, and I post FRESH attacks, that DON'T take advantage of his unknowningness of Subs. EG - Use attack XXXX 3 times, NOT sleep powder (and rapage)
Then, in future, you know that your newbie is not going to be caught out like that again. As long as there is some explanation that comes with your actions, the newbies will learn.
The bonuses that the Mentor gets are for a)taking it easy on a newbie, which will encourage them to stick around and try harder to beat the Mentor when they fight at full power. and b) Because the Mentor is teaching, they will, in all likelihood, show the newbie how to beat them, and most probably lose.

Honestly, while it seems like a good Idea.. ASB IS the School of Hard Knocks. Which usually helps you get better faster when you battle better opponents who cream you. You see strategies and such in there that you can use.

Imma get this a bit later, after work.
Still, any attack x3 is mostly not a good choice, since you're Torment bait. Hmm, we should set up a thread with basic battle strategy. Explanation on subbing for example, and some pointers like it's ok to use subs, but don't go 'if he does x do y' for 10 different case, etc, etc.
This got me thinking!

Yeah, some moves are seriously useful with the right time and foe. (Amnesia, Embargo, Entrainment, etc.)
Maybe give the ASB Stratedex a makeover...
