Yep, but you'll have to exclude one, remember the cap is 3 with the exception of HM slaves.

Certainly Do-able though ull have to go a long while with just that Pikachu. Might even end up in my Situation with my Blastoise.
As far as im aware Voltorb are first found in the Grass just before the Rock Tunnel after the Vermillion Gym, Jolteon a little later when you get to Celadon and Buzz are even later than that, ie back at the Power Plant once you can surf.

    Good luck with Brock.

Oh pish. I've beaten Brock with just a Pikachu several times, mostly in Yellow Version. Just make sure to level up until you have access to Double Team. It's not like anything in that Gym has a Ground-type attack.

Indeed. I'm doing electric aswell and it's a pretty pain in the ass those Rock/Ground creatures. Double Team up and Quickattack/Slam/Struggle to death. I implied Megapunch aswell, a tip from me.

I didn't stop the challenge, but I got so busy I don't have time for it anymore, I'll make some time and complete it. I hate unfinished business.

I think I'll give this a shot... besides bug what types haven't been done yet?
I've dedicated myself to the craft of music education. What does this mean? I'm going to be stuck getting paid next to nothing, dealing with obnoxious teenagers and bad oboe players, all for the sake of art.

    And I couldn't be happier.

I think I'll go with Psychic. I don't have a Shark, so is it fine that I use my starter until I can catch an Abra?

Looks I'll be rockin' Kadabra, Mr. Mime, and Hypno for this quest. I may not be able to start for a bit, but once I start I'll post on here every now and then with my progress.

OK, I know I usually just give the straight facts in these updates, but this was just so anime-ish, so much like a last-chance underdog story, I just had to go into more detail!

    -Left FUSCHIA GYM.
    -Healed at FUSCHIA POKEMON CENTER.
-Returned to FUSCHIA GYM to challenge KOGA...

OK, here's where the story comes in. I walked up to Koga and he did his opening monologue, the condescending bastard, and then we got started. He sent out his Koffing; I sent out my Hitmonchan, who beat Koffing within an inch of his life before the gassy Pokemon Selfdestructed, blowing itself to bits and knocking Jagger into the red. That was one down...

But then, Koga sent out his Muk, and that, my friends, is when I realized I was doomed. I kept Jagger out, hoping his Special Attacks would make a little headway at least, but his Ice and Thunder attacks barely scratched the poisonous blob, whose insane HP comboed with Acid Armor and Minimize made even my strongest attacks, which were only half-effective to begin with, useless. My Hitmonchan, Primeape, and even Machoke were all Toxic'ed to death before Muk fell into the yellow zone. Frustrated and defeated, I quit and turned the game off.

Several hours later, I tried again; pretty much the same thing happened until old Mukky came out against my fresh Primeape. At first, I tried to Cross Chop the blob into submission, but it didn't work. After 2 Cross Chops had barely gotten Muk down 30%, I decided to try a different approach - if I couldn't outmuscle Koga, I'd just have to outlast him...

And so it was on. Muk started by Minimizing and Acid Armoring himself to near-invincible, and then he switched to Toxic and Sludge whenever a new Pokemon faced him. With only 5 Full Heals, 7 Super Potions, 2 Hyper Potions, a Max Potion, 4 Revives, a Max Revive, and a Full Restore to use as crutches, I had my work cut out for me.

I used Hitmonchan and Machoke as the brunt of my offensive, eventually forcing Koga to use up a Hyper Potion. He repeatedly Poisoned my team, who I Healed, Potioned, and Revived in rotation for what seemed like hours. As hard as I tried, though, eventually my supplies ran out... the Full Heals and Hyper Potions went first, followed by the Revives and Super Potions, and eventually, with only Machoke and a badly beaten, Poisoned Hitmonchan on my team, the Max Revive went, too. Eventually, I whittled his health enough to get Koga to use his second Hyper Potion; he responded by bringing down my Primeape and Poisoning Machoke enough to knock him into the red zone.

I was down to two battlers now, but on my next turn, Hitmonchan was out and Full Restored - he was ready to go, and Muk had maxed defense and evasion now... His Sludge attacks were annoying but not too harmful, and Hitmonchan's Detect countered his Toxic quite well, until he ran out. Still, an Ether later, and he was back in business, repelling four more Toxics! Now Muk was down to only Sludge attacks, and though he managed to Poison Hitmonchan in the process, eventually the slimeball fell. Two down.

Koga sent out his other Koffing next; with two Poisoned fighters, I had to act fast. A couple of Sky Uppercuts later, and Koffing was out. Three down, and Hitmonchan was in the yellow. Still, I figured, even if he fell, Machoke's Rock Slide could handle Koga's Venomoth.

So, this was it... Koga sent out his final Pokemon...

But wait! What's this?! It was no Venomoth - it was a Weezing! I'd been thinking of the original Red, Blue, and Yellow when I thought that! At this point, that sinking feeling Muk had given me came back; try as he might, Hitmonchan could barely scratch Weezing before he was in trouble. Before Hitmonchan collapsed, I used my final healing item - my Max Potion, bringing Machoke back to full health. One turn later, Hitmonchan was down, and Machoke was up. His Rock Slide and Vital Throw chipped Weezing down to about half power before he could do any real damage, but Sludge and Smokescreen kept giving me problems. Machoke took a particularly nasty Sludge in exchange for a dead-on Vital Throw, the end result of which was Machoke dropping to about 40 HP and Weezing still just above the red zone. If I Vital Threw, Machoke would probably be out before he could counter; if I Rock Slid, he'd likely miss. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I used Rock Slide...

And it hit dead-on! Weezing's health fell out, and the big ball of gas was down and out! I had won!

But I wasn't out of the woods yet - my last Fighter was still Poisoned, and if he fainted, it was game over. I took my badge and my Toxic TM and bolted through those invisible walls, eventually stumbling my way outside and to the Pokemon Center. I got my Pokemon healed with my last Pokemon Poisoned and at 22 HP...

So, that's pretty much it for now. I loaded up on more items and switched my team around a little, and then I was off, saving on ROUTE 18 just outside FUSCHIA CITY.

    More to come later...

Koga didn't have a Venomoth in Red/Blue. They gave him a Venomoth in Yellow because he had one in the anime. FR/LG is completely faithful to Red/Blue in matters like these.

Default Re: The Official FR/LG Limited Pure Monotype Challenge of 2005

    Two-part question:

    1. Is it necessary to complete the SEVII ISLANDS?
    2. If not, does anyone recommend it? I don't really see the disadvantage of just skipping the islands altogether and just moving on to the last Gym and the Elite Four.

    Anyway, update:

    Name: Bruce
Reason: A portmaneau of 'bruise' and the legendary Bruce Lee (I personally prefer Jackie Chan, but his name doesn't sound as tough [No offense, Mr. Chan.].).
    Type: Fighting
Reason: It seems like the toughest type after Bug that I can access early in the game.
    Rival: Jack
Reason: Jackass, jack-off, jack ****... You get the idea.

It is not necessary to complete the Islands. I would have liked to, myself, but the requirement to get data for 60 pokémon was deemed too harsh when you're in a Monotype Challenge.
That said, I don't see why you'd want to skip the mission in the first three after Blaine. I find it rather fun, and of course it's another source of cash and EXP. You like cash and EXP, right?

    Holy Hell, it's been awhile...

Well, anyway, I (finally) found this game to be incomplete again, so... Well, see for yourself!

    Update:

Reason: Jackass, jack-off, jack ****... You get the idea.

OK, I didn't save the play-by-play this time. I'm just gonna give the concised version.

With Lorelei and Bruno out of the way, my next big hurdle was Agatha and her team of Poison and Ghost Pokemon: A true nightmare for any Fighting Pokemon Trainer...

OK, so I lead off with Chuckya and she sent out Gengar. Great... After a couple of Double Teams, I had a hard time doing much of any damage, but after Agatha wasted her first Full Restore, I caught a break and landed two Fire Blasts. One down...

Next up was Golbat. I swapped in Jagger and Ice Punched the vampire to death. Haunter was up, but after taking Gengar, Chuckya easily Rock Slided the Ghost into submission, as well as the next Gengar, which fell to an onslaught of Thunders and Fire Blasts. Last up was Arbok, who actually put up a good fight - 2 Earthquakes and it still hadn't fallen, and its Sludge Bomb was doing heavy damage to my Fighters. Finally, the damn thing fell to a third Earthquake. Victory was mine...

Anyway, a few Revives, Full Restores, and Full Heals later, and we were ready for Lance.

So, Lance started with his Gyarados, and I began with Ukkiki, whose superior speed got in a Thunder attack, instantly defeating the water-snake-o'-death. With him out of the way, I was up against Aerodactyl; Ukkiki got in a Thunder and a Karate Chop, bringing Aerodactyl down to the yellow before its Wing Attack KO-ed Ukkiki. But Chuckya's Sub-Punch combo scored enough damage to bring the prehistoric killer down.

Then... he sent out Dragonite. At first I was nervous, even with Jagger, but after wasting its energy on Safeguard and Outrage, a few Ice Punches was nothing. Dragonite fell, and Dragonair came out; 3 Ice Punches later, it was down, too. That just left one Dragonair, who took an Ice Punch before a Sky Uppercut brought it down.

So, with Lance out of the way, I Revived, Restored, and otherwise rejuvenated my whole team. Ethers, Elixirs, Max Potions... everything I had, I used. I saved, and then I went on... And faced Jack.

So, first up was Pidgeot. I sent out Chuckya, and he landed a Critical Sub-Punch combo - even weakened by Featherdance, he knocked Pidgeot out. Next came Alakazam, who was a breeze - two Earthquakes from Ukkiki and he was out. Exeggutor came next. He put up a decent fight, but after a few rotations of healing, Ice Punching, and Fire Blasting, I took the palm tree Pokemon out. Rhydon was next, and even easier - two Earthquakes from Ukkiki again, and Rhydon was out.

Next came Arcanine, who took Rock Slide after Rock Slide and dished out Flamethrower after Flamethrower, eventually KO-ing Jagger and bringing Chuckya down to the yellow. That just left Blastoise...

This was the toughest battle of all - I instantly sent in Ukkiki, who Thundered Blastoise into the red; Jack responded with Full Restore, KO-ing Ukkiki on the next turn. I sent out Chuckya while Reviving Ukkiki, and Chuckya was defeated in the process. I sent Ukkiki back out, and he Thundered Blastoise back into the red; Jack responded with his last Full Restore and KO-ing Ukkiki again next turn.

I sent out Frogfucius and Czardragon to absorb the attacks while I Revived Ukkiki and Restored him; after Frogfucius and Czardragon fell, I sent Ukkiki back out and Thundered Blastoise into the red one more time. Next turn, Blastoise Hydro Pumped Ukkiki into unconsciousness again, so I sent out my last Pokemon, Lakithundr, Revived Ukkiki while Lakithundr was being KO-ed mercilessly, and with only one weak Pokemon left on both sides, Ukkiki Karate Chopped the last of Blastoise's health away.

    Final score:

    Jack: 5 KO's.
    Me: 6 KO's.

    Game. Set. Match.

So, after the end scene and the credits, I saved in Pallet Town. next stop: Cerulean Cave - and Mewtwo!

    The finale to come later!

Wow, great job. I'm Crazy (couldn't get back into my old account). Congrats, and enjoy your useless title! I'm amazed this is still running.

I saw, Crazy - it WASN'T still running, actually! I just wanted to import some Pokemon from Fire Red to Diamond and saw I'd never completed the challenge. So... I'm finishing it now. All that's left is Mewtwo...

And beating the Elite Four AND the Uuber-Psychic Mewtwo with Fighting Pokemon is hard, so my title is slightly less useless than everyone else's! Go, me!

Yeah, sure go ahead! All MTC are still up in every subforum. I recently did a Pure Monotype Challenge, but in RSE. Thinking about doing one in FRLG, to keep you company.

Started out with Squirtle, did everything until I got to Viridian Forest where I wanted to catch myself a +atk natured Pikachu. I did after about ten tries, which was alright. Chibi and I trained in route 2 like hell, battling Mankey, Spearow and Rattata for ATK and SPD EV's. When I reached l.6 I ditched all other pokemon besides Chibi and trained some more. When I finally hit l.13 I challenged Gary and gave him a run for his money. I was ready to go fight Viridian Forest.

I cleared the bug catchers and trained up to l.17 before facing Brock. Double team all the way, then Tail Whip both rocks and Quick attack them to death. Boring and tendious, but I got the job done. Whipped Mt.Moon and all trainers before facing Gary again in Cerulean, where I got defeated by Sand-attack spam on poor Chibi. Retry killed him, though.

Went all the way up to Bill for some expierence and an S.S-ticket. Then swept Misty with two Thunderbolt and immediatly went for Vermillion. I hopped onto SS Anne and saved there.

    Pokemon

    [F] Chibi (l.35)
[Lonely | Static] Thunderbolt | Secret Power | Dig | Double Team

Finished SS Anne and picked up Cut. Hurried back, defeated Surge with Dig and went to pick up Flash. Caught myself all pokemon available too, since I needed 30 for an Itemfinder. After that, I sped through Rock Tunnel directly to Celadon, where I picked up my Eevee ^^ Trained it to l.36 for Baton Pass and gave it a Thunderstone.

Once that was fixed, I did everything that was left, like trainers I didn't defeat or items I had to pick up. Then proceeded to Fushia, Safari Zone and picked up Surf! Beat Koga with Bite and Shock Wave from Raiji and surfed to Power Plant.

Gonna be catching my third and final party member in a while

    Pokemon

    [F] Chibi (l.45)
[Lonely | Static] Thunderbolt | Secret Power | Dig | Double Team

    [M] Raiji (l.45)
[Mild | Volt Absorb] Shock Wave | Thunderwave | Bite | Baton Pass

Picked up an Electabuzz in Power Plant, taught it Psychic and finished up the rest of Kanto + League. Nothing to difficult, although Gary's Rhydon did cause me some trouble with Earthquake, so I had to spam Double Team. Now on Four Island and got my national dex.

    Pokemon

[Lonely | Static] Thunder | Focus Punch | Substitute | Double Team

    [M] Raiji (l.65)
[Mild | Volt Absorb] Thunder | Thunderwave | Bite | Rain Dance

    Buji (l.63)
[Modest | Static] Thunderbolt | Thunder | Psychic | Lightscreen

    Oslo wants to do one!

I started with a lovely little Charmander named Ragemuffin. Unsurprisingly, my asshole rival just had to go with a Squirtle (it's almost like douchiness is just part of his programming!) and immediately engaged me in battle. Why did I not have better judgment when I was a wee lad choosing my schoolyard familiars? Anyway, that loser didn't stand a ghost of a chance. Ragemuffin and I flattened his Squirtle before my Charmander's health bar could even enter the yellow. Is it premature to say that Ragemuffin is an unstoppable, godly force? Mhm, gonna have to say no. He may be Bashful by nature, but Ragemuffin is a bonafide tortoise-crusher.

I traversed north where a strange man I do not know gave me a Potion. I am opting not to use it on one of my Pokemon except in an absolute emergency as I suspect it is laced with some sort of date-rape drug. Upon arriving at Viridian City, I picked up Oak's stupid parcel because he's a lazy old man who bullies the neighborhood children into trekking through monster-filled grasses to run his errands. When I returned, he gave me a Pokedex, not that I really care, and I set off! My adventure awaits!

However, things got very tedious very quickly. After training Ragemuffin in the grass west of Viridian I simply just could not find a fucking Spearow. Fucking poachers. As a result, I decided to go north and catch a Caterpie instead. After finding a disproportionate number of males (this cannot bode well for the longevity of the species) I finally found a lady Caterpie I simply had to add to my party. After punishing her with a single Scratch care of my juggernaut Ragemuffin, I caught her ass and named her Ms. Buggly.

Taking a moment to celebrate my victory, I returned south to resume my Spearow hunt. I found plenty of Mankeys and a buttload of Rattatas, but no Spearows, sadly. Ten excruciating minutes later, I finally found one at long last and, though it was only level three, I simply could not help myself. I caught the fuck out of that idiot bird and named him West Nile as a token of my disdain for it. I know it's not West Nile's fault that it took me so long to find a friggin' Spearow, but I'm choosing not to like him as a result. He can suck me off if he doesn't like it.

Once that was sorted out, I returned to Viridian Forest where my quest will continue!

Actually 'lo, you got this wrong. Unlike other MTC's, this FRLG is a 'Pure' monotype challenge. This means you can only use 3 party members and they can't be dual-typed. Which eventually leads to me saying that there aren't any pure Flying types around in FRLG

Heyy guys i actually ended up dropping my gba sp and it broke in half so i couldnt do it, possibly the most devestating moment of my life! Aha but i now have a DS and am going to be doing a normal type one ill be updating probably daily so yeah

i started yesterday (with a squirtle) and caught a rattata straight away, trained it to lv16 and took on brock! Did the good old tail whip spam to potion trick for a while and it was all done and dusted, i then moved through mt.moon and forgot to buy repels.....what a mistake that was! I thought to myseld,' i may as well find myself a clefairy!' big mistake! You see, i have this thing where i do not use girl pokemon, dont know why, it just stuck, so here i am trying to find a pokemon with a 1.7% chance of finding it, let alone the 25% chance of a male! 3 hours it took me! Of constant looking until i finally found one! And what a moment that was! Aha so i went to leave and just to my luck.........i find another male clefairy.... Like reallly? 3hours of none and then 2 in a row??! Aha anyways i still caught it and named it 'really?' aha , i then exited and demolished misty immediately and tought clefairy water pulse, smashed gary, and am now on nugget bridge,
    recap
Clefairy-(TROPHINIAN Dont ask i was in a creative mood aha) lv 22-moves-pound,water pulse, doubleslap, minimize.
Raticate-(Arcutio- yet again, dont ask aha) lv23-moves-hyper fang, quick attack, tackle, tail whip
play time-5:42(curse you clefairy!) let me know if anyone else is keen on doing it with me, some company would be nice

You need to work on your formatting, but it's always nice to see a new kid, especially when they get involved with stuff past just saying "Hi." in Misc. and then vanishing forever.

    Please, proceed.
