Congratulations Poryhedron. You are now............THE POISON POKEMON MASTER! Hold your useless title high and laugh at those who have yet to match your skill!
MeLoVeGhOsTs: A good HM slave set is Farfetch'D and poliwhirl, since poliwhirl learns waterfall surf, strength, and probably rock smash, and he can be caught in the wild.

Just you wait, I'll be the Electric pokemon master ^^
Alright, I just started my challenge on my LG game. I'm going w/Fire. I have one question though: Can I use Flareon? I realize I have to have the normal type Eevee, but then I could immedietally put a Fire Stone to use and evolve him. I'm just thinkin I'm gonna have to use INFERNO till I can get to there (which will be hard enough already...) and then I can't even get Magmar and Ponyta till way later. Yes I will have Vulpix, but I'm a little hesitant about this whole challenge.

So yeah, I finished down Mt.Moon, picking up important items like Moonstone and Helix fossil. Proceeding into Cerulean, I first made a quick stomp at the fighting dude, to teach my pokemon Megapunch. Same base power as Slam, but 10 more accuracy. What's to lose? So anyway, I came into Cerulean, healed and challenged my rival. It was quite the spectacle and I had it rather difficult. Pikachu was on a pretty high level, but he's still pretty weak. I finished him off and proceeded on Nugget Bridge. No difficulties there, but the hikers along the route to Bill caused more problems. I had to fall back on Double Team again and sweep them slowly but steady with Megapunch.
Then I released Bill from his pokemon-self, obtained the SS ticket (nazi ticket, whatdoyouknow), checked out his pokemon and went down to the PC. Misty awaited.
*Misty*
One Thunderbolt per pokemon, gymtrainers and Misty. Obtained badge
*End*
So that was that. I was satisfied with my Pikachu's level now, so I saved on the other side of the underground path, before the trainers.

Well, I suppose as long as you don't train the Eevee until it evolves then yes. Just don't use the Eevee in a fight and I'll let it slide.Originally Posted by Rabid_Cow

I've made a lot of headway since I last posted.
-Went back and caught a Spearow
-Evolved INFERNO then headed towards Pewter
-Challenged Gym Leader Brock. The gym wasn't too hard, but Onix gave me a scare w/Rock Tomb. INFERNO luckily burned him w/Ember, and from there on losing wasn't even a possibility.
-Fought my way through every trainer in Mt. Moon
-Caught Paras for later before I left
-Grabbed the Helix Fossil.
-Used the Move Tutor to teach Mega Punch to INFERNO.
-Healed up and took on my rival, easily won w/o a problem.
-Saw Bill
-Challenged Misty. INFERNO was lvl 30, so I wasn't concerned, but I still used Smokescreen a few times on her Starmie
-Went South to Vermillion
-Went on S.S. Anne, and there INFERNO learned Flamethrower. I got INFERNO to lvl 34 before my rival, and during he actually evolved to 35. Flamethrower just plowed through every poke w/o a problem.
-I just received HM01 from the Captain, and I'm about to head back for my third gym battle.

Yup, I went down Route 6 and defeated all trainers, before coming up in Vermillion City. Ahh, the harbor, what a quaint feeling. I went along the ship, the digletts cave and into the grassy field. I challenged the trainers there and lost! Darn Magneton. After that I quickly disposed of them.
So my next stop was the S.S. Anne. I healed at forehand and got ready. Defeating all trainers with ease, picking up berries from HMer 2 and defeating rival, yeah that's what you call a good boattrip. I picked up CUT from the Captain and watched the S.S Anne set sail. Oh, the times *tear*.
I healed, taught cut to CH'DING and stepped inside Vermillion City Gym.
*Surge*
I had no difficulties what so ever, which I didn't expect. Surge tried to scare in saying that his pokemon are off the electric type that they will zap me to death, paralyze, etc. He's right, BUT he forgot that I am the new electric master, no more of those foolish Hybrids. One type, one team, one champion. I Megapunched them to death, after exchanging a Thunderwave+Full heal battle with Raichu and Surge. The badge and a new Electric TM were mine. Shockwave will prove in handy...later.
*End*
So that was that. I was satisfied with my progress and saved, just before the Digletts cave.

After getting Cut, I taught it to Paras. Then I went to take on Lt. Surge. 1 Flamethrower from INFERNO was enough to trash every single poke there.
After getting the 3rd badge I headed towards Rock Tunnel. At this point I was excited because all I had to do was get through here and I could get another Poke. INFERNO may be powerful enough to be my only poke the whole game, but PP on moves would start to worry me. (Why don't they ever sell Ether? I think it would be a very profitable item to carry....) As I eagerly got to Rock Tunnel I entered and got ready for Paras to FLASH... Too bad i didn't go through Diglett cave and get HM05. I had totally forgot about it in my eagerness for Fire pokes.
I made my way back all the way down to Diglett cave, went through, and then had to capture 6 new pokes... I caught a few bugs and a rat. YAY! Now that I had HM05 I went back to Rock Tunnel.
I battled my way through using my way too high of a level Charmeleon and his trusty Flamethrower/Metal Claw mowing the Ground/Rock pokes that I saw. Mega Punch and Slash made an appearance everytime I came across anything other than the dreaded Rock pokes. I eventually ran out of PP on Flamethrower, but I made it through my last real hurdle.
I healed up, then headed west in search of fiery gold. I grabbed my Eevee and rushed to buy my Fire Stone. I evolved FLAMES into Flareon (none of my nicknames are good right now, I’ll think of better by the end of this I’m sure), then I headed off to get the COIN CASE. I had eyes for the Shadow Ball TM, which I had to work for… I walked around checkin the floor for coins, and soon had a good collection of 100. I went to my favorite slot machine, the one right above the old man, and within about an hour or so I had enough coins for the TM.
After teaching FLAMES Shadow Ball and Dig, I took on Erika. My lvl. 25 FLAMES was strong enough with Quick Attack and Shadow Ball to take every single poke by herself. I had INFERNO ready to go, but with a single Super Potion I was able to continue through without him. Does ANYONE find that gym difficult? IMHO it doesn’t represent grass pokes well at all…
Now I’m headed back towards the Casino to take on the Rockets…

And a few benchwarmers - I need some HM Masters (I refuse to call them 'slaves.') and I want me an Itemfinder!

Expect the unexpected, Crazy.
However, I do have a concern - the only Pokemon I have until the Safari Zone is Caterpie/Metapod, meaning my only attack for the first four Badges is TACKLE. I'm not worried about that; what I'm worried about is that I can't catch a Pinsir until I get the Safari Zone in Fuschia City, which I can't reach without catching/moving the Snorlax. And I can't move that Snorlax without the Poke Flute, which I get from Mr. Fuji in the Pokemon Tower. But I can't reach him without defeating at least a few MEDIUMS - all of whom use Ghosts! How do I beat Ghosts with no useable moves?
Well, while I try and figure that one out, here's an update:

Hrm...all I can think of is, every time you battle a Ghost-type you spend the first six turns Hardening and then get ready with Super Potions and lemonades. Wait out the Ghost and eventually it'll do itself in with recoil from Struggle.
That's a horrible solution, of course, so avoid as many Channelers as you can...oh my, Agatha's going to be an unmentionable...

Well, back to work...
Wait, wait, holdonholdonholdon.
You're playing Leaf Green, I hope? You'd better be if you were planning on catching a Pinsir.
You can get one before Pokémon Tower.
I just did a quick check, and Scyther is available as a prize in Fire Red's Rocket Game Corner. That means Pinsir must be available as a Game Corner prize in Leaf Green.
Go get'm!

Lol, the bug challenge is much tougher than I realized, I had forgotten about about the ghost trainers. I suppose you'll just have to go with the stuggle strategy.
Random Mark Twain Saying
"Suppose you were an idiot. Suppose you were a member of Congress. Ah, but I repeat myself."
Hmm...just checked the Roll Call topic and you say you've got Fire Red. Pinsir isn't available at all on Fire Red. If you're playing this challenge on Fire Red, you'll have to find someone to trade with who has Leaf Green and trade something to them for a Pinsir...I suppose Crazy might require you to wait until you reach Celadon to do that since a Leaf Green player can't get Pinsir until Celadon. Other, less restrictive challenges require that.

I told you before, Crazy, I'm not doing this for the points - I'm doig it to prove I can. But I know no one with Leaf Green, so I'm essentially ****ed - all I can do is catch three Metapods, level them up as high as I can, and strap in for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong game of stalling and Tackling my opponents to death...
(sigh)
I don't know what to do. Is it worth it to spend would could likely be hundreds of hours just to prove I can do something no one cares about and win a prize I don't even really want? I doubt it. I should just let someone else waste their time doing it - if all I'm gonna be doing is walking, Tackling, healing, and repeating the process a thousand times, I won't even be having much fun, either... I'm already bored, and I haven't even beat Brock yet...
So, screw it - I shouldn't jump into this type of thing so eagerly.
I'll check what other types are still available, and then I'll try again.
EDIT: OK, I checked over this topic, and the types that haven't been taken are:
Fighting
Ground
Psychic
Dragon
Now, I don't have a Gameshark or anything like that, so I'd say Dragon is out, since the first Dragon I can possibly get is a Dratini in the Safari Zone. Way too late.
Psychic and Ground or possibilities considering I can get a Sandshrew or an Abra after just one Badge, but I'm not sure if Crazy would allow that.
That leaves me with Fighting... Not the hardest type to get through the game with, but certainly not easy, either...
OK, I'm re-taking the Challenge with Fighting-type Pokemon - early in the game, they can only learn Normal and Fighting moves anyway, which will be a challenge in itself.
I'll update my progress as I go; until then, I'm outta here - CEB can take the Bug challenge instead.
I just realized something about the Bug Challenge. Couldn't he have used Poke-dolls to escape the ghosts or do they not come until you get to celadon?
(my first challenge complete)
TERRY's GROUND CHALLENGE 2006- (Monotype Challenge) TPM RBY
(my 2nd challenge)
And lv 10 butters learns confusion. Super effective vs gastly. Duh.
Yes, but that isn't a pure bug type, which is what this challenge is about, pure pokemon only. I SHAN'T HAVE FILTHY DUAL TYPES IN MY COMPETITION! They are inferior creations! Pure types are the only way to go!

The first time you ever face a Ghost-type is in Pokémon Tower. Besides, you can't get Poké Dolls until Celadon City either.

- Wont go to the minute detail but basically chose Squirtle and went through the usual processes. Got to Brock with Squirtle at lvl 14 and pretty much washed him away.
Moved through the Trainers towards Mt Moon and passed through there. Reached Cerulean with Wartortle now at lvl 23. Rival battle had me worried as Bulbasaur managed to put me to sleep but managed to come through. Made my way to bill and now, with Wartortle at lvl 28 im about to go see Misty.
Im starting to see the problem of only having 1 pokemon. It gets ALL the experience. At this rate ill end up going to see Surge with a Blastoise.
Current Team:
LV. 28
Mega Punch, Watergun, Bite, Rapid Spin
Im guessing its not possible for me to get a Remoraid or a Feebas on Fire Red?

If so where is the Good Rod?
Anyway, since i wasnt sleepy i kept playing.

- Well Mist was a walkover. Starmie went down to a Mega Punch and Starmie was the Victim of a Critical Bite. After there i moved on down towards Vermillion taking out all the trainers along the way and i caught a Meowth as a HM slave. Once i was there got myself the Old Rod and tried to catch some new party members but since i was hooking nothing but Magikarp i gave up on the idea. Instead i headed to the route East of Vermillion and took out some more trainers, then through the Diglett Tunnel to get HM05.
Once i was back i went through the SS Anne and the Battle with my Rival finally pushed Wartortle up to LV. 36 and he Evolved. By the time i left the Ship and made my way to Surge (via his 'apprentices') Blastoise now had the secret to overcoming a type disadvantage. An 18/20 level advantage.
At Lv. 38 he was faster than anything Surge had and all 3 pokemon went down to a Single Mega Punch.
Now im halfway along the road to the Rock Tunnel and desperate for some new Team members!

Damn, Gav, you're fast!
Anyway, the only suggestions I have are catching a Magikarp and leveling it up to a Gyarados (Which you understandably don't wanna do.), or after you get out of the Rock Tunnel, go over to Celadon, get an Eevee from Celadon Mansion, and evolve it into a Vaporeon. Everything else I think you have to Surf or Fish for; the Good and Super Rods are found in Fuschia City and just south of Lavendar Town, respectively.
Good luck with the hunt.
Also any advice on future team?
i was thinking Blastoise - Vaporeon - Golduck but then theres Kingler......ooooh decisions.
As for movesets im thinking...
Blastoise
Earthquake, Ice Beam, Hydro Cannon, Megapunch
Vaporeon
Aurora Beam, Water Pulse, Haze, Shadowball
Golduck
Surf, Confusion, Brick Break, Blizzard
Again im no good at making effective sets, i tend to just load them out to damage multiple different types lol. If anyone can suggest a decent Kingler set then by all means Do so. (possibly to replace Vaporeon since everyone uses them)

Well, I'm not too good with movesets, but I'll give it a shot.
1. Blastoise - Earthquake, Ice Beam, Hydro Cannon, Mega Punch
This is a pretty solid bunch of moves; a good mix of Physical and Special attacks. I'd say leave it as is.
2. Golduck - Surf, Confusion, Water Pulse, Blizzard
This one is pretty good, but I'd suggest teaching Goldy Water Pulse instead of Brick Break - Special is Goldy's Specialty, not Physical. Besides, now almost all his moves will have a side effect - Freezing and Confusion are the best status effects, IMO.
3. Poliwhirl - Belly Drum, Rest, Snore/Sleep Talk, Brick Break
Kingler and Vaporeon are both good choices, but I think you need a Physical attacker, and when it comes to brute strength and good moves together, I'm thinking Poliwhirl. He can learn the Belly Drum/Rest combo, so his attack can go way up way fast. From there, Sleep Talk or Snore until you wake up, and for the last move, you can use a nice Earthquake, Body Slam, Hyper Beam, or some other powerful Physical attack.
Just a few suggestions - I'm no good at making good movesets either, but hey, if they get you through the game, then who cares? That's my motto (is the guy who taught his RBY Jolteon Pin Missile, Double Kick, Thunder, and Toxic).
The thing im thinking though is that Kingler would be a Physical Attacker. Ok Belly Drum/Rest is effective but Poliwhirls Base Attack Stat is 65. Kinglers is fully Double that at 130.
When it says 'Tutored moves' on a Pokedex howare those moves Learned?
Perhaps using Hyperbeam, Flail, Swords Dance, Body Slam would be effective for an all out attacker but Swords Dance and Body Slam are 'tutored moves' and im not sure what that means. Whether its just a term on the dex i use.

Another reason I suggested Poliwhirl - Body Slam and Swords Dance are taught by Move Tutors on Four Island and Seven Island, respectively. You'll have to wait awhile for them...
In RB, The Old Rod never caught anything other than Magikarp. I seem to remember hooking a Chinchou with it once in GSC, and in RSE it can hook Tentacool. FRLG is faithful to RB, though. Magikarp Magikarp Magikarp.Originally Posted by Ultimate Charizard

- Having a Water type thats more than 20 levels higher than anything you face is a good way to get through the Rock Tunnel Fast. Ignoring Lavender for the moment i moved staright West, dodging as many trainers as i could (incase i needed to level somethng lower up later) and headed to Celadon. Since im not much of a time waster i went straight for the Rocket hideout and made my way through there, giving Giovanni a sound slapping.
After that i decided i wasnt going to attempt Erika untill i could afford Ice Beam from the Game corner so headed back to Lavender and made my way up the Ghost tower. My Rival was easily overcome and despite only having 1 attack that could hurt them, the ghosts were easy enough too.
After leaving there i got the Pokeflute and decided what to do next. Blastoise was already at LV. 48 and i made my mind up, if i passed 50 without catching anything decently trainable then id do the 'Mono-Pokemon' challenge .
I headed for the fishing guru south of Lavender, got the rod and had a fish around. There was nothing of interest there (im not going back to level up a lvl 15 horsea) so i decided to head up to Vermillion.
The first Pokemon i hooked, a LV. 33 Psyduck. I thought these were Safari Zone only so i made sure i caught that. Next one i hook, LV.30 Poliwhirl. I was hoping on a Krabby but beggers cant be choosers so i went for it. Of course theyre not at Blastoises level but they were still a good 10 levels higher than most of the trainers i was facing. After a little more training i headed back to Celadon, got me an Ice Beam TM and went after Erika.
Poliwhirl had a little trouble as she had to rely on Hypnosis and Doubleslapping where as Blastoise and Psyduck had the Luxury of Ice and Psychic attacks. Erika was dropped once agan with OHKO's from Blastoise, Psyduck evolved and i learned that Poliwhirl needs some new attacks fast .
Savd and ended in back in Lavender, from here ill head West and clean up all the trainers i missed on my way to Saffron.
