    Good Company

    Hold my hand
and drift off to sleep with me

    Skeleton trees
Clouds and dusk and all that inspires

    I like to drive
I like to drive when you're with me

    Where are we going?
It doesn't matter if we get there as one

    Silence

    Shattering screams
    These roaring delights

    This is happiness
This will be a good night

    With you

    Power Play

    Striding out of the house,
    Oh what a day.
    Spitting down to the ground
    With dismay.
Lighting up and passing smoke around.
The thing's you'll do on solid ground.
    Put it down.
    Walk away.

    Whisper 'King of the Creaks',
Let the voices in your head speak.
    King of the Creaks,
And I'll show you what it is you seek.

    Tell me something you like;
    I'll tell you mine.
    Sneaking up to your room
    All the time.
    Feeling less like a beast,
    Savour food from the feast
    Kiss me harder, at least
    Then I'll go.

Show your heart and your soul,
Thrust in time with the bed's moan.
Becuase I'm the King of the Creaks,
Let the voices in your head speak.

Lie with me and we'll muse.
Give me choice and we'll choose.
Then I'll sing you the blues
    What a day.
I think I'll like the weekend this way.

    Because command and divide
    Every tear that I hide.
    Now it's time I decide.
    If you 'Creak'.

Great work on The Lotus Eater; your words are always very succinct yet contain loads of great thoughts and feelings. I loved 'Embrace us/They have become us'.

    ^___^ thank you chris! yay.

Sigh. Sometimes I feel I should put more thought into my poetry rather than go "omgsh i'm about to burst open with feelings right now; must write it all down and post it on tpm!"

IMHO if you overthink it, you lose the real essence of the poem. Hence this: these words together are only about a minute old haha.

PancaKe: I don't think raplying makes me a legend, but thanks for the comment. ^_^

The first three poems (Good Company, Silence and The Lotus Eater) made me think about the time of joy spent with a special someone in our lives. From little things like helping them with their homeworks to parties and other crazy stuff, every moment spent with them are moments to be treasured, and I can see that in each of your pieces. I like the simplicity of Sorry, because you can use this to describe a lot of situations in one's life (love, weak spots, the thought of showing someone a part of you they do not know...). Overall, nice job on all of them.

Chris: I have to admit that your poems get the hidden mischievous side of me to think of many erotic scenes while daydreaming (its disturbing sometimes... but that's what I get for being a fan of japanese girls).

But apart from that, I loved the description of the King of Creaks used on this piece. It feels like an open invitation, and that's why I believe that the name was used effectively to dleiver the message.

I agree with Chris on this one Tara. When we think too much of a poem, we might end up losing focus of it, and with it, the essence itself is lost too. But of course, it's worth a try to mix creative thoughts and feelings to make even better pieces. Whatever you think its best, you decide.

OK, this next piece is a poem based on the lyrics of "The All-American Rejects". This was part of an English homework. Oh and one more thing: I do not plan to make any profit from this piece. I just post it here for people to view and of course, most of the credits are for the band than for me.

    My Paper Heart
(Based on the discography of: The All-American Rejects. Credits to the band)

I wanna be your sunshine love
If you just have faith in me and believe
But if another heart calls your love
My dirty little secret, you will be.

    I have this Straightjacket feeling
That I can someway, somehow change your mind.
I’m waiting with my heart bleeding
As I write the last song to make you smile.

Even if the life gives you hell,
And even if your dreams seem too far gone,
If you don’t leave me, I promise girl,
to dance inside you and make pain move along.

My love like the wind blows for you
And time stands still when you are by my side.
I’ll reach the top of the world for you
Become your star and give you a night drive.

My paper heart’s for you, my dear
Your happy endings draw and paint my life
And if you dream to come back to me
Then I’ll be your world and you’ll be my wife.

Lois, I love the imagery of "I promise girl, to dance inside you and make pain move along." LOL you guys are all so dirty! Thinking nothing but sex all day. ahaha. Or was that the All American Rejects part of the poem? Sigh I'm not sure!

And I think you guys are right. I love to just write how I feel, and I love that you guys do too I guess in that way, we all share so much of ourselves here. </end sappy reflective moment>

Well, I wasn't thinking "that way" when I wrote that verse. I was actually thinking how I would dance in her soul (when you dance, you become full of energy, happiness and forget about the troubles in life. When I dance inside her, I mean to bring her energy, happiness and make her forget about her troubles in life).

Dance inside is one of the songs of the band, and in almost every verse of the poem, I have at least one song of the band, so that's why I said that the credits belong to the band (If I recall correctly, every verse, except the last one, has at least one song from the band).

I'll try to be more careful when writing verses, jejeje

Don't worry too much about it! When I took a second look at the verse, I knew that you've had a point, since it could give the reader that kind of feeling too.

Haha, Chris is a bad boy... but he's still a cool poet.

I think I find Poetry can be so pretentious, it was important for me to take that away in my work. And there's something so unpretentious about sex. Its so great! Most of my work reflects my personal life, but it really isn't so glamorous. It's about exploring the most innate aspect of us, but being a bit cheeky and egoed with it all. I'm the least shy person in the world haha.

    It's there
    Our elephant in the room,
    Bulky, large and obvious.

    Best steaks in town,
Cocktails hardly free but easy on the wallet.

    Feet tread cobbles; ambling, chatting,
If we keep walking, shopping, we won't give ourselves time to think.

Of the elephant in the room.
Namely that you have a girlfriend.

Your last line makes me smile,
Since I haven't heard it in a while.

    I knew each word
    Before they left your lips

    Even psychics have routines.

    No toothpaste kisses
    Or lingering gaze.

    But I have you.
    It's there, in my heart.

    Futile

Could be that we are on the magical mystery flight,
    And reality comes back.
    Cuz it's Monday again,
    And the red pill says:

    WAKE UP

Smell the roses its better on the other said of the fence,
    And the future is now.
    So stop dreaming
    Until Sunday,
    To wake up Monday,
And do it all over again.

    BIPOLAR REORDER

    Fully-clothed, I feel more naked
I’ve walked the world, but I’ve gone nowhere
I’ve given up everything, but everything else is mine
I fell in love, but in love with hatred

The world is cold, but I still sweat
My heart, it beats, but I don’t bleed
The devil got hold o’me, but not because of my sins
An ecstatic ecstasy, but I no longer care

My muse remains, but creativity wanes
I fell in love with hatred, but it didn’t feel the same way
I have many questions, but I already know the answers

Grey: I've never seen much of your poetry. I found it so simple; so narrative, it got across a message of helpless effortlessly. I do like poems that distract from a formula; only then can we see the true raw emotion.

    The Night 'We' Died

    A million billion feelings
clog a pathway to my common sense,
    Thousands of sex pennies
    that I've gone and spent.

    Embrace the man you are
and let's both lose the common sense,
    Kiss me, then repent.

    Even the Strong can Break

Through the falsehood, through the lies
    Through the pain and alibis
Through the night the Phoenix dies
When mountains crack and diamonds cry.

    Angels sob when justice sleeps
    In the shadows sorrow creeps
and life and truth, their silence keep
When stones can bleed and steel can weep.

A keening cry the mourners sing
    Of lovely angels, broken wings
    and purity has tainted things
    Forevers ending, shattered rings.

As hope is lost, love from a friend
grateful for the hand they lend
    Dawn is breaking, winter's end
For wounds will heal, strong hearts will mend.

(when really bad things happen and my soul feels poisoned, I write like this to get it out and then I feel at peace again ^-^)

Chris: I felt a weird sensation with "It's there". I find this pece to be kinda different from your usual pieces, but I still find it amusing; probably because I find myself identified with it (a girl friend of mine with a girlfriend; but she's one of my best friends). Plus the elephant reference made me feel like there was a big obstacle between the situation, and the last line of the poem gives it a romantic touch, making it a nice ending.

Of course, when I read "The Night we Died", I felt like you were back again. Short, brief and straight to the point, nicely done, I believe.

Crystal Tears: Your poem gave me a thought about having a wonderful day with a special someone, and wanting that day to never end... but then reality takes it away; leaving one with the wish of having a special day again. I don't know why, I still don't understand the "red pill" reference (maybe because I don't know what red pill means at all ), but don't mind me. Nice piece overall!

Greyfox: Your poem reminds me of the song of Three Days Grace - Animal I Have Become. But I believe Gavin knows a little more about angry poems, so I believe he can be of help on this one. I loved the ecstatic ectasy reference, since when one is angry, we might become suddenly strong and we can endure a lot of punishment (have you seen two students fighting... have you seen that they hit themselves really hard, bhut still keep fighting? that's what I mean). Of course, I do not promote violence people... peace over hatred and love over war.

Asylinne: I also have to admit that I write most of my poems when I feel sad, angry, or with my soul being drained from me... and your piece really demonstrates the power of feelings. The "love from a friend" reference makes me think that there might have been a disillusion in your life, but I'll leave it there. The title reference gives it a nice touch about what the reader will expect from your poem and the ending brings up a positive outcome of the sad feelings, so well done. Oh, and do not forget about the following:

If you feel like you’ve lost all hopes
And if your life hangs on a rope,
Please do not weep, for we are here,
To cheer you up and clean your tears.

    The Pokemasters can help out
    And make you laugh without a doubt;
For each of us have ups and downs
And share our thoughts like “folks from town”

So, every time you feel depressed
Just write your thoughts with rhyme and verse
And keep in mind that we’re your friends
    The pokemasters ‘till the end.

    Only a Small Lie

It's too much for the mind to grasp
No matter how hard it works
    This will never be accepted
    It can never be right

    These changes and transformations
Back away. Act like a friend.
Run along now. Run away quickly.

    Bared fangs and pretend
It's no big deal. Is it?
    Open-booked and obvious
    Swords ready for the hunt

Keep it in such a state
    Kill it at the gate
The hunt, the force, the strike
Not a monster, just not human enough

    Make a quick getaway
    Leave it there to die
It won't come after us will it?

What is right? What is wrong?
Who writes the notes in your song?
They taught this by the books
Have they wasted their time on you?

Thanks shadow wolf for the feedback ^-^ Writing like that is my way of taking the pain from bad things that happen and making it so that something good ultimately comes out of it, so it isnt a waste. It also makes me feel better ^-^ Glad to know you like! I like yours too, its simple and yet it shows that even though this is a forum on the internet like many others, people can find friends here for life ;D!

Shadow Wolf: Ha ha, the Red Pill actually is a reference to The Matrix and the pill that wakes you up from the fake reality you're in. :3 Thanks for the comment, glad it made you think of something. I don't often put up my poems and what-not, stories are my comfort zome.

I like yours, its cute. Made me smile when I thought of all my friends here. ^^

Asilynne: I dunno if I told you on MSN if I liked yours, sorry if I didn't. I can't express myself properly, I should go back to speaking like my fox and maybe then I could tell you what I thought about when I read it. But if I did that you might not get it. XD

I liked it, and I hate you for being able to do such beautiful poetry biatch. <3 (you know I luv you).

    Now time to plunder.
    For this wish came true,
    Just for you.

    Seaside Prayer

    Thick dust
    Turns to rust
    The children sang their song
    In my eyes
    They are still children

I awoke before the sun was up
Long after it had gone down
Shivering from the heat, so hot
    My body was so cold

    Gnarled hair and flaked hands
    Stench out onto my boat
I kicked them off as hard I could
    So I could keep afloat

I had set off by myself
    Too far out was I
    The storm it came
    And the seagull rang
    That same familiar song

    Thick dust
    Turns to rust
If let out in the sun
    Too long
    Be sure to clean
    Be sure to keep
Your loved ones safe and warm
Thank you Saffire Persian. (Complete list coming soon)

    Wine House

    Like the poker we play,
    It's important to win.
And the prize that you earn
    is a wonderful sin.
    Eyes dart to your cards,
    Shuffle, confuse me good.
    But soon you'll come knocking
    Like I knew you would.

Oh, I can't believe I'm back here again.
Gasping for a breath of fresh air,
    Sleeping with my friend.

We shook hands, made a deal
And we went on our way.
    But how does it feel
    to throw all that away?
    One thought, fleeting and fast,
Takes you right by the horn.
And just like in the past,
Your fist raps on my door.

    Oh, who lives like this,
    Fast-paced and discrete?
    Isn't there a quieter place
the two of us could meet?

We'll play games and make deals,
But let's sit down and talk.
Cos I know how it feels
    Running before you walk.
Take the keys to your lock,
    Slowly open your heart.
And from here, we can flock
And go back to the start.

    The war within my soul.

Oh with me, how the bitter cold winds of self pity have numbed my hands with frost bit of sin.
I walk down the driveway of despair, darkness has clouded my skies of the truths.
I know there is a way to brake the chains of torment that bind me to the walls of death.
I wonder if I shall ever find a way threw the forest of depression, well I ever find that inter light to guide the way.
Well I ever put on the armor of rightness and pick up the shield and sword of god?
Well the winds of time test my sails of faith on the river of life?
Well I ever be strong enough to brake away from seven deadly sins?
Well I put my trust in the lamb of god, or buy in to the lies of the devil?
Well I ever find out who I really am and what is my true reason for being here?
Well I ever defeat the foe of my soul?
Well I ever sail this vessel the way god wants me to?
Well my destiny be reviled some day to me?
Well I ever have a grand adventure of a life time?

This one is called: Me and My Family

I pounded two shots of scotch
While my parents were eating dinner
    Across the counter from me.

“You guys say we never talk,
So let me update you on my life.
    That girl that just left,
    The one I always bring over;
    She’s my girlfriend.
    She’s leaving for Florida,
So you’ll never see her again.
    My best friend Matt,
    Who is practically a member of the family now;
    He’s gay.
    I have an internet wife
Who I write letters to all the time.
That’s why I keep getting mail from
    Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Also, I failed my Political Science class.”

    They looked at me, dumbfounded.
    “You failed Political Science?”

    Come what may,
Inject me right into your veins.
I'll snake my way through your remains
A buzz to send you high.

    On and on,
A cyclone of the lust you won,
An endless tale that's never spun,
    What would the neighbours say?

    Love electricity
    Shockwaves; queasy
    Drink a current up
    and we'll both get sleazy.

No-one's in to hear you groan as shivers shudder down your spine

Thanks, Chris! I rarely dabble in poetry (much more of a fiction man, myself), so when I do I try very hard not to do what's expected of the form.

    Why I’ll Never Be Successful:
Because I suffer from a terminal case of awkward
Because I've had Senioritis since the second grade
Because my bedtime is 4 AM
    Because I always procrastinate
    Because I'm clueless and uninformed
Because my room is a mess
    Because I’m a bassist
Because I majored in creative writing

Ryan - I lolled so hard I peed myself a little. Ahhhhhh I relate to pretty much all of that. I love the last two lines, because myself being a creative writer and my boyfriend being a bassist, we're like "SIGH WE'LL NEVER MAKE MONEY FROM THIS!!" ahhhhh !

    Little Brother

    Looking back,
You should have listened to mother
when she said, "No more of that."

    Instead,
    we all listened to Dad.
He was fun, he let us do that.

    How are your wheels now?
    A mattress regularly washed,
    and bedsheets freshly cleaned.

And we just didn't bother with them,
you can't lift yourself on those things.

    You were always good
    at breaking things.
    Most two year olds are.

    Congratulations.
Can I please sign it for you?
A swirly curly signature you can display proudly.

    Dad was really grumpy
and sat in front of the TV all night
    because Mum was right.

    Rubik's Cube Mind

    i once knew a friend
    a pretty profound fellow
    sometimes joyful, sometimes mellow;
influenced by the angle of the sun.
a hidden closet filled with a thousand masks
    smart stupid
    chatty silent
    funny serious
    sometimes thinking he is cupid.
    the enigmatic spirit
    creating a history of mystery
    deep within
    astonishing wisdom
    vivid memories
    relive the experience
always one with a clever pun
though he didn’t even know it.
my friends intricate inner world constantly crashed to a pit
    heaven becomes hell
    but a mastered ability
    always shielded with a shell.
    for you see
though he played ‘let it be’
he had a mind of a rubik’s cube that shall never be solved.

twist it, turn it, break it, fix it
    scattered colours everywhere
    warped rainbow
    eight red and one blue
    too good to be true
    boo hoo hoo!
don’t you know that internet addiction
    only causes inner friction?
do you think he’s a fool?
do you think he knows he’s too involved?

    illuminate within
    things now seemed clear
    no longer things to fear
why worry when we got some curry?
    all that sadness
    it was simply madness!
    his inner voice rejoice:
    “epiphany!”
    now it’s time
    mountains you gotta climb
winter days fading into the before
making foot prints beyond the shore.
    the storm has halted
    and his heart now jolted
    an era is over
    a revolutionary feeling
    “i have evolved”.

    one side now monochromatic
    green, red, blue?
    who really knew?
    orange, white, yellow?
friend, as long as you’re no longer mellow.
    i once asked him
    does your soul become ecstatic?
    monochromatic stopping the erratic?
    perception deception.
    proper inspection
    wiggity wiggity whack
    time to talk some smack
cause when you’re better you got the knack
one beer two beer a thousand beer
puff the magic dragon is near.
dude, why did you bring your deer?
    ecstasy smiles
    run for miles
    soul resolved.

one day he had some spare time to reflect
i whispered deep into his soul
    something profound
    something thoughtful, something wise
    in the outside world
    there was never a sound.
'do you truly think if you solve one side
you will be able to turn the tide?
    you're still askew
    but this you already knew
there's five other sides still scattered!'
    this epiphany left him battered.
the end is just the start
old habits will be deep within his heart
    things so underlying
only able to move one side
the five others out of his control
    depression session
    instant crying
    mind dissolved.

    Like the Sun

Watch him dance; preening feathers like the stuffed owl in the cabinet, mimicking palm trees by Hawaiian shores; he is Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock, thousands of naked bodies mill in amusement at his performance; he is the hinge that has flown off the door, the waters have barged through like we foolishly never expected them to. We are wet, we will drown, and we laugh at the idea.

Like the spiders who fornicate and then devour, you are the female and I am the man, a gender reversal for metaphors sake. Feed me your venom, and I come back for more; I whisper, thank you, for showing me what it is to want to burn. Somewhere between the laughter and the flood, I lost my footing; our tango a slapstick show, my mouth too full of shoe to speak, and you whisper nasty things without a face to share the joke.

Cup my face and pour your fire down my throat. A drill sergeant in the making; I gave him twenty and he obliged to be an eagle and fly me away to lands undiscovered, where minds map the barren waste and bold splashes of colour make everything so square. Shapes and hues blind us for the moment; and I bow before the jury, several seats containing only him. He is the blanket I lie beneath, he is the tiger I fear in dreams, and I wait for his verdict, his hungry mouth salivating.

Well, Tara, that was quite delightfully bizarre. What's the muse behind it, if I may ask? It felt so important, even though I couldn't grasp the meaning. The image of the hinge flying off the door was pretty powerful. Also, reading it while listening to Avril Lavigne's "Alice" was quite interesting ... it certainly has that kind of tripped-out, Wonderland quality. Mucho cool.

This is more lyric than poem, and really just something I spun out this evening, but I wanted to post something.

    let go

I’ve been most resistant to your unagenda-ed insights
and how I’ve bucked in your unwelcome floodlights
how long I’ve spun my wheels in this sand trap
how long you’ve feigned patience when I’m like that

how I’ve enjoyed these imagined trials
how I love to be in denial
how I relish the validation of exile
how I’d love to stay in denial
    for just a little while

I’ve been so insistant that my rage was most justified
and I’ve railed against those who tried to pacify
I’ve chased this hostile dream, this life unfettered
hell-bent on staying under the weather

how I’ve enjoyed these imagined trials
how I love to be in denial
how I relish the validation of exile
how I’d love to stay in denial
    for just a little while

and you're fed up with me I know
but I’m still not ready to let it go

how do I relinquish the burden I’ve tried so hard to shoulder?
how do I extinguish the hurt I’ve encouraged to smoulder?
I still want to be the king of pain
on this throne I feel too safe to change

how I’ve grown into this self-serving style
how I love to sulk at the bottom of the pile
how I relish the validation of exile
how I want to stay in denial
how I need to stay in denial
how I love to stay in denial

Shazza, there is something so extremely uni student about that piece ... I think it's really cool. It feels cluttered and disorganized and unfinished, which coheses perfectly with the subject matter. I feel like I can relate to it so much ... things like facebook and jagabombs and bachelor degrees ... very nice piece. I dunno if it was meant to be meaningful, but I certainly found some meaning in it. Well done.

Cheers, Gavin! I typed it at 5am last night as I was up all night attempting to do an essay that is due tomorrow (I still have not completed it), so your uni student perspective is spot on. And there is lots of meaning in it, but at the same time it is completely meaningless.

I haven't had much experience in poetry, and don't have much confidence in my abilities, and envy everyone else's pieces when I read them as to how profoundly written they are with metaphors. So thank you!

Oh, and I did most of it with my eyes closed.

I liked the last poem a lot, shazza. Dunno know why, it just felt 'true'.

Fuck, I wish to be a native speaker.

    Thanks man!

I've had so little hours of sleep and have been listening to old Beatles lately, combined with the fact I'm doing a literature review about some poor girl that gets abducted by some dude, it gave me inspiration for something corny. It's a bit graphic at times, so I'll spoiler it. Probably been done loads of times before, so whatever dawg. Very seldom have I tapped into a mind of a fifteen year old girl.

    (Spoiler:) Oh Lisa, No Lisa

    Oh Lisa
It’s time to get up, there’s so much to do
The sun is shining and her world so new
    Oh honey
    She’s only fifteen
    And boy she’s real keen
    It’s a Saturday night
Her first ever party is near in sight.

    Oh Lisa
She block out her mother’s cries
    Her brother’s lies
Daydreaming of dancing under the stars
But she thinks she knows not ride in boys with cars.
Her mind is in a bit of a case of worry
But she craves the day to hurry.

    Oh Lisa
Makeup and skirts are her pretty mask
But it’s worth all those hours of task
    Self-esteem equals boy’s attention
The hair straightener is her favourite invention.
Her mother thinks it’s a girl slumber party
She giggles as she thinks she’s so smarty.

    Oh Lisa
She loves the glances of boy’s eyes
But she only wants the hottest guys
Giving most boys a cheeky smile
    Well aware she’s being guile
She thinks she’s already made a million new friends
Oh how she hopes tonight never ends.

    Oh Lisa
A few cruisers have gone to her head
She starts to think it’s ready for bed.
But she’s having the time of her life
Being drunk and getting into strife
She goes behind the tree and has a spew
She is a bit disgusted, venting “ewww”

    Oh Lisa
Talking to a sexy twenty one year old
In her mind she is sold
A flash of magic goes from flirt to kiss
Being in love would be inner bliss
He takes her hand into a spare room
Maybe on day he will be her groom?

    No Lisa
The man is playing with her breasts
    She’ll do whatever he suggests
Not knowing that this is his kind of trick
He says “get down on your knees and suck my dick”
He tells her that he’s her little slut
As he takes off her pants and slaps her butt.

    No Lisa
Unaware that he is just a sleeze
The vulnerable girl will do what he please
He starts licking her vagina so tight
She knows deep down that this is not right
But she knows she can’t help but do this
As he whispers to her that he’s her little miss.

    No Lisa
    Loses her virginity at fifteen
    This was never something foreseen.
She lays there without a shout
As he goes in and out, in and out.
Bham! he goes as he pulls out his dick
She never thought his love would end so quick.

    No Lisa
She wakes up next morning safe in her house
Spouting off to her mother that last night was grouse
Back in her room she lies idly on the floor
Wishing so badly to be the innocent girl of before
The first time will always be the first
From that realisation, Lisa’s tears burst.
