Proposal to change the Eighth Generation forum's name to Switch Pokemon Games

Hi everyone,

Since getting into the Pokemon games for Nintendo Switch (I'm a little "late", but better late than never), I've been thinking, we ought to do a little revising of the Eighth Generation forum so that it gets renamed to Switch Pokemon Games (that is, with the E in Pokemon accented), with a few sub-forums:

-one for Pokemon Sword & Shield
-one for Pokemon Let's Go Eevee & Let's Go Pikachu (they're considered 7th generation games)
-one for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
-one for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
-maybe one for Pokemon Legends Arceus?

Being as I feel that Legends Arceus is between the 8th & 9th generations due to the ability to trade most of the available Pokemon in Legends Arceus to Sword & Shield and/or Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, and the ability to trade Hisuian forms & the new evolved forms of some Hisuian forms (e.g. Wyrdeer & Sneasler) to just Scarlet & Violet (I dunno why Nintendo didn't make those particular Pokemon available in the 8th generation games besides Legends Arceus, so IMO, it's just a little bit of a head scratcher), I'm not sure if discussing Legends Arceus would be better suited for OPG, or in a sub-forum.

Anyway, what do you guys think? I've already heard from Fett One, Mikachu, and Gabi on this idea.

Sounds like a very good plan to me. I'm guessing Arceus could get it's own sub-forum in the new Switch forum, I know what you mean, Arceus is kinda in it's own weird little world. It's not exactly an "Other Pokemon Game" even though it kinda is too. It has trading compatibility with the newest games, so it really does belong with the Switch generation of games IMO.

I'm also wondering... is it perhaps time to reconsider how the older generations of Pokemon Game forums are laid out? Fourth Generation (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver) is currently in the Classic Generation forum instead of the DS/3DS Forum, even though they are DS Games... is it time to perhaps put the mainstream games (basically all the games before the Nintendo Switch) under the umbrella of Classic Generations forum, with each generation having it's own subforum, and possibly eliminating the Team Rating subforums for Generations 3 and 4?

We're going to restructure the forums in question, but we first need to decide how we want to do it. I suggested that Kyle posted this thread because I was not sure of what people would prefer. For now it sounds like there should be a Mainstream Switch Pokémon Games... with a subforum for the 8th generation, one for the 9th and one for Legends: Arceus?

And I think it would make sense to move the 4th Gen games to DS/3DS.

I'm not sure about the Team Rating subforums because I've never actually looked at them, sorry. Perhaps they could be merged with the forums for their respective games? I don't know if anyone still wants their team rated, but if they do, they could always post a thread in the subforum for the game their team is for.

Yeah, I kinda think that we don't really need Team Rating subforums, any team rating requests could definitely go in the main forum for that particular game, I think it would make a less cluttered look overall.

Don't forget we've also got Let's Go Eevee & Let's Go Pikachu; as I mentioned already, they're considered 7th generation games. While they introduced Meltan & Melmetal (#808 & #809 respectively in the National Pokedex), they were also the first Pokemon games released on the Switch (aka before Sword & Shield). On that note, just to avoid potential confusion, maybe we should also rename the sub-forums of DS/3DS Pokemon games as such (old on the left, new on the right):

Fourth Generation -> Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, Soul Silver
Black/White -> Black, White, Black 2, White 2
Sixth Generation -> X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire
Seventh Generation -> Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon

Edit: I also definitely agree with you and Christen on the team rating thing Gabi; I mean, they were pretty common in TPM's early days, but hardly anyone rates a team posted here (or even a single Pokemon for that matter) nowadays. One of the few exceptions was when I decided to rate Link's Tyrantrum from Ultra Moon; when it comes to rating (or even coming up with) a moveset for a Pokemon, I'm so glad we've got Smogon with their many great suggestions for movesets, and as some of you may know (or perhaps didn't know), I received some Pokemon from them in GTS trades in the past. That was where I went to look for a better moveset to suggest for Link to try for his Tyrantrum.

I guess the newly renamed Switch Pokemon games forum doesn't need the individual sections for each of them...that is, unless we get a surge of topics & posts there that are for a specific game covered in that forum. Nonetheless, thank you Gabi! Hopefully this will help improve TPM.
