Default [GYM] Prepare to dance! Oslo vs. Mike (ref: fox comma Grey)

Huzzah, my first non-E4 challenger! Mike, it's time to put on your dancing shoes.

Quietly tucked away in the club district of some unspecified Norwegian city, Combat Disco has rapidly become the new face of the local nightlife. The establishment primarily consists of one rather massive dance floor with pulsating strobe lights. Numerous tables and chairs are clustered near the walls and a bar replete with all sorts of libations sits in the corner. This dance-battle fusion club is known for its eclectic repertoire of music—here, everything from cozy little acoustic ditties to explosive heavy metal outbursts can be heard nightly. Curiously enough, the music tends to have an impact on the dancers.

Every time a Pokemon on the field faints, the type of music changes and brings about a new effect. Though this music is of adequate volume, rest assured that it will never be so loud as to drown out sound moves used by the battlers. Additionally, even if your Pokemon has the Soundproof ability or is battling with their fingers in their ears or is attempting to destroy our indestructible speakers, it doesn’t matter: no Pokemon can avoid hearing the music no matter what. After all, you can’t stop the beat!

Once the music ends, the accompanying effect will fully and completely come to an end as well. The following is a list of the various genres played at Combat Disco and their attendant effects:

    ‡ Category O ‡

Top 40: This style of music always plays from the beginning of the match until the first Pokemon faints; it possesses no additional effect

    ‡ Category A ‡

Easy Listening: Both Pokemon may only use one damage-dealing super effective move per round
Punk: One Pokemon receives +3 Att/+3 Def and the other +3 SpA/+3 SpD
Emo: Every action there’s a 20% chance a Pokemon will disobey its trainer’s orders and use Fake Tears instead (the Pokemon will manage to use Fake Tears regardless of whatever other status effects are in play, including but not limited to Sleep or Taunt, or even if they can’t actually learn Fake Tears)
Screamo: Both Pokemon come under the effects of Torment until the music ends
Rap: Both Pokemon come under the effects of Taunt until the music ends
Tribal: An irreplaceable weather effect that negates any other existing/future weather effects occurs

    ‡ Category B ‡

Oldies: Attacks are either increased or decreased in power depending on the Generation of their introduction:
    Generation I: +5 HP | Generation II: +3 HP | Generation III: +/- 0 HP | Generation IV: -3 HP | Generation V: -5 HP
Dubstep: Attacks are either decreased or increased in power depending on the Generation of their introduction:
    Generation I: -5 HP | Generation II: -3 HP | Generation III: +/- 0 HP | Generation IV: +3 HP | Generation V: +5 HP
Country: Both Pokemon may only use moves with names that are nine characters or less (including spaces and punctuation)
Reggae: After the next Pokemon is released but before commands are issued, the Gym Leader and then the challenger will openly declare one move known by the opposing Pokemon for it to “forget” for the duration of this effect
Chiptunes: Both Pokemon can only use moves they or their previous evolution learn by TM/HM

    ‡ Category C ‡

Heavy Metal: Both Pokemon have their ability changed to Heavy Metal
Rock: Both Pokemon have their type changed to Rock
Polka: Both Pokemon have their ability changed at random
    Folk: Both Pokemon become typeless

    ‡ Category D ‡

Classical: Both Pokemon transform into Kricketunes with the Swarm ability

The choice of music, determined by the referee DJ, is not completely random. There is a 40% chance the genre of music played will be selected from Category A, a 30% chance it will be selected from Category B, a 25% chance it will be selected from Category C and a 5% chance it will be selected from Category D. The DJ should bear this in mind while selecting music. As well, the DJ is reminded to inform the battlers what the change in music will be before the change actually takes effect.

Since Combat Disco is a disability-friendly Gym, should either battler send out a Pokemon that requires water in order to fight, a section of the dance floor will retract to reveal a pool large enough to comfortably contain a Wailord. Furthermore, should any weather effects come into play, part of the roof will automatically pull back and open up the club interior to the sky.

Those who successfully defeat Combat Disco's Gym Leader will receive the Glitter Ball Badge as well as the house TM, Teeter Dance, to be used on a single Pokemon with legs that has competed in the Gym challenge.
This will be a three on three. I'll lead off with...

RE/MAX, my male Drifblim with Aftermath.

Awesome custom sprite care of Cynder:

    You release and issue attacks.

Hrm, a Rock Pokemon. Oh well, type ain't no thang.

RE/MAX, begin with a Thunder Wave! Then Toxic. Since you're a Ghost, you should be able to phase out of the Rock Tomb... at which point I want you to use Gyro Ball to evade the Ice Beam and attack!

    COMBAT DISCO!
GYM LEADER OSLO v. MIKE MYSTERIO
    3-on-3

    Arena
    Combat Disco

The establishment primarily consists of one rather massive dance floor with pulsating strobe lights. Music

Gotye (ft. Kimbra) - Somebody That I Used to Know
Top 40: This type of music always plays from the beginning of the battle until the first pokemon faints; it possesses no additional effects.

    Round ONE
We enter Combat Disco, a special dance club outfitted particularly for pokemon battles. The proprietor of this club/gym, Oslo, has been challenged by Mike Mysterio -- a man with three other badges on his belt. The gym leader, wearing the most fashionable pair of shades and slacks, releases his pokemon first -- the most Americanest, most product placementest pokemon of them all: RE/MAX, an unfortunately painted drifblim. Mike grits his teeth, and reveals his own pokemon: a nasty red rampardos named Ore. The music begins, and the battle does as well.

Max begins by firing off a very weak concentration of electricity from his red tassles. The snapping, fizzing concentration wraps around Ore and constricts his muscles, paralyzing the large un-fossil quite nicely, making him unable to respond.

    Max - -5PP // *par*, +25% Par - Ore

The ghostly home seller responds to his opponent's inability to move by poisoning him as well. The poison is nasty too, getting stronger and stronger as it sinks deeper and deeper into Ore's large frame. Oh, how Ore would love to do something about that, but his muscles are still constricted.

    Max - -5PP // *par*, +3% Tox - Ore

Max, feeling slightly disappointed by his opponent's unwillingness to counterattack, ends his own charade and connects with the ground as his balloon-esque frame becomes more solidified. Max then charges toward Ore. The red dragon's paralysis remains strong, making the referee/DJ ponder about just what was in that thunder wave. Max connects with Ore, but given how slow Ore is, the attack barely even makes a dent.

    Max - -6PP // *par*, -5HP - Ore

    Ref Notes:
    ~RNG (where <25 = Paralysis): 14, 1, 20.~
    ~Victims of
paralysis will have a 25% chance of being completely unable to attack; if they can't as a result of paralysis, any damage incurred by poison, burns, etc. is reduced by 1HP; their speed is also reduced by 75%.~
    ~Victims of
toxic will take 1HP damage per action multiplied by the number of rounds the afflicted has been under its effects; relaxing for an action will reduce the damage done by 1HP.~

    Round TWO
Max, feeling devilishly confident, fries the large beast with a surge of electricity. Ore feels the nasty hit, but his body is ready now for a counterattack! With anger setting in very muchly, Ore leaps at the zepplin and trashes about, dealing incredible damage as a result.

    Max - -3PP, -18HP // -1HP, -8PP, -5HP - Ore

Not quite expecting what happened there, Max has to think fast. He escapes from Ore's thrashing, and retaliates with a nasty hex. The damage is increased wonderfully thanks to Ore's poison and paralysis. The large, earthly reptillian counterattacks with an avalanche -- letting snow fall harshly from the ceiling. Somehow.

    Max - -7PP, -18HP // -1HP, -8PP, -15HP - Ore

Max shudders away the cold and snaps his tassles, hexing the opponent once more. Ore cries out this time before summoning a torrent of electricity to shock the flying ghost heavily.

    Max - -7PP, -18HP // -2HP, -10PP, -15HP - Ore

    Round THREE
Sensing danger coming his way, Max closes his eyes and tosses a small baton high into the air before being recalled to his poke ball. The baton flips around in the air swiftly before being caught by the king -- Thrashypants. The large nidoking smirks whildly as electricity rains down on his durable hide.

    Max - -5PP, *recalled* // King - *summoned* // -2HP, -8PP - Ore

Frustrated that his last attack was a bust, Ore charges toward Thrashy and chomps down harshly. Thrashy, however, grips onto Ore's neck and rips him off, slamming him into the ground for incredible damage.

    King - -7PP, -8HP // -2HP, -6PP, -16HP - Ore

Ore struggles to pull himself up just in time for Thrashy to bash him with a concussive beam of fighting energy. The large rock-tillian stamps a few feet back before retaliating with a punch that... does no damage...

    King - -10PP // -3HP, -5PP, -18HP - Ore

Knowing his end is about to come up, Ore readies his swan song. However, before he can orchestrate such a thing, the arena floor begins to tremble powerfully until Ore is knocked off his feet and onto the dancefloor -- defeated.

Dubsteb: Attacks are either decreased or increased in power depending on the Generation of their introduction: Gen I -5HP, Gen II -3HP, Gen III +/-0HP, Gen IV +3HP, Gen V - +5HP.

    Round FIVE
Ore is recalled quickly and replaced by a large mamoswine: Tank. Sensing the danger of allowing King to go up against a pokemon with dual-type advantages, Oslo recalls King and sends Re/Max right back out, who avoids Tank's ground-based attack without even trying.

    King - *recalled* // Max - *summoned* // -3PP - Tank

Tank, largely dissatisfied that his first attack completely missed its target, focuses his rage on the oddly-colored dirigible. His tusks sharpen in intensity with ice energy and he rams into Max harshly, dealing incredible damage as he summons the bright sunshine above to be even brighter. Even though they're inside.

The handsome and amazing DJ hits a button on his podium and Combat Disco's roof retracts, blinding everyone inside near about.

    Max - -12HP, -7PP // -3PP - Tank
    Sunny Day - 6 actions

Tank is still frustrated, but his earth power is easily avoided by Max. With his opponent out of energy to attack, Max is able to concentrate his efforts on equalizing the battlefield nicely. The ghostly balloon summons an ethereal tether that binds the two pokemon together, and after a few moments of draining, both pokemon's health levels are marvelously equal.

Max, however, doesn't look so good after the transfusion, and slowly slumps to the ground in exhaustion.

    Max - -35PP, +33HP // -5PP, -33HP - Tank
    Sunny Day - 5 actions

    Ref Notes:
    ~While
Sunny Day is active, all Fire-type attacks will have 50% more power, while all Water-type attacks will have 50% less; Solar Beam will fire instantly; healing moves involving the weather will heal for 50% more; pokemon are immune to being frozen.~

    92/83.~

If Tank uses Sandstorm, replace Weather Ball with Shadow Ball.

    COMBAT DISCO!
GYM LEADER OSLO v. MIKE MYSTERIO
    3-on-3

    Arena
    Combat Disco

    Music

    Mstrkrft - Heartbreaker
Dubsteb: Attacks are either decreased or increased in power depending on the Generation of their introduction: Gen I -5HP, Gen II -3HP, Gen III +/-0HP, Gen IV +3HP, Gen V - +5HP.

    Round SIX
Tank stands back patiently as Max summons a sphere of energy that absorbs the sunlight. The sphere gets larger and larger, but Tank remains unhindered. The weather ball is fired and connects with the mamoswine, who absorbs the hit and retaliates with a nasty ice tackle!

    Max - -5PP, -21HP // -6PP, -15HP - Tank
    Sunny Day - 4 actions

Re/Max's exhaustion is telling, and he retreats to his corner of the arena to relax his muscles for a brief moment as Tank stamps about the arena to summon a sudden cold snap to wash out the sun.

    Max - +10PP, -1HP // -5PP, Hail activated, +2 Eva - Tank
    Hail - 6 actions

The ghostly zepplin's in a bad place at the moment, but he remains stoic, creating another weather ball from the ice. The sphere of ice is fired off and strikes the mamoswine despite his evasion boost. Tank roars, handling the attack quite well, before retaliating with a nasty blizzard that manages to knock Max out of the air!

    Max - -5PP, -1HP, -13HP // -8PP, -10HP - Tank
    Hail - 5 actions

    Ref Notes:
    ~While
Hail is active, all non-Ice-type pokemon will incur 1HP damage per action; Blizzard will hit with 100% accuracy.~

    Round SEVEN
Max shuffles around the cold arena, summoning daylight once more while, at the same time, bonding himself with Tank devilishly. Tank, being nonethewiser, misses his snow cloak and stamps the arena floor, sending chunks of debris to topple down on Max, trapping him underneath. The bond breaks shortly thereafter.

    Max - -20PP, Sunny Day activated, -7HP, -1 Spd // -3PP - Tank
    Sunny Day - 6 actions

The balloon is nearly deflated as he bonds himself to the ice mammoth once more. Tank, again being clueless, merely attacks back with another fierce blizzard that snaps around Max as the bond breaks once again.

    Max - -3PP, -13HP // -8PP - Tank
    Sunny Day - 5 actions

Without anymore actions to perform, Max slumps down and starts recharging his energy. Tank takes advantage over his foe's inability to perform by saying something like, "Don't worry, it happens to lotsa guys," and hooking the ballon with his icy tusks, deflating the un-bonded balloon. But once Max closes his eyes, Tank feels a chilling sensation down his spine as much of his health depletes...

Seeing the second casualty of the battle go down, DJ Grey switches records and starts playing something older -- much older.

    Max - +10PP, -11HP // -4PP, -11HP - Tank
    Sunny Day - 5 actions

Cool beans. (Although Tank should be at 31, not 33, but those are small potatoes.)

Thrashy, you're up. We're gonna go Fire Blast, Seismic Toss, Fire Blast.

Sub: If he changes the weather, replace your Fire Blasts with Surfs. Protect against epic damage-dealing combos.

    Round EIGHT
Oslo suffers his first casualty of the battle, and responds by bringing the king back to face Tank. The well-rested King begins the round by blasting off a pentagram of flames that appears to be getting stronger and stronger in the sunlight. Tank cries out as the flames bathe him in pain before responding with a terrifying collection of tremors that manage to knock Thrashypants off his balance thanks to Kansas.

    King - -10PP, -20HP // -6PP, -29HP - Tank
    Sunny Day - 3 actions

King, not liking how that last attack went down, pulls himself together as Tank wrestles with fatigue. In a swift display, the monarch of thrash and pants latches his arms upon Tank's tusks and slams the beast to the ground, ending him easily. Mike is forced to recall his ice pokemon as the DJ switches tracks again.

    King - -7PP // -2HP - Tank
    Sunny Day - 2 actions

    Music

    Bad Religion - American Jesus
Punk: One pokemon recevies +3 Atk/Def and the other receives +3 SpA/SpD.

    Round NINE
Mike releases his next pokemon and the fierce tunes of Bad Religion have strange effects on both fighters. King feels at tune with elemental damage, while Luis does the same for physical. It's... interesting.

    King - +3 SpA, +3 SpD // +3 Def, +3 Atk - Luisenbarn

Luis, having heard all about Oslo's switching nature, decides to give the gym leader quite a fright by disabling all the poke balls in the disco. As he's doing so, King retaliates in the way he's best known to -- toxicity.

    King - Locked in, -5PP // -5PP, +3% Tox - Luisenbarn
    Sunny Day - 1 action

Shuddering under the effects of the poison, Luis slips to the ground and readies himself for a nasty earthquake. However, before he can even pound the disco floor, King smacks him with a nasty sucker punch, dealing nice damage. Luis shrugs it off, however, and summons the earthquake anyway as the sun finally fades away and the roof returns to its normal position.

    King - -8PP, -18HP // -8PP, -9HP, -1HP - Luisenbarn

As the poisons slowly get deeper and deeper, Luis lifts Thrashypants high into the air with his mind and tosses the beast into the wall, causing quite a bit of damage. King, however, pulls himself together easily and snaps his fingers, somehow causing Luis to completely forget what he was doing...

    King - -5PP, -9HP // -6PP, -1HP, Psychic forgotten - Luisenbarn

    Round TEN
Thrashypants begins to feel a little threatened, and with nowhere left to go, must face his adversary head-on. He reels his arms back, summoning a sphere of ghostly energy for a few seconds before throwing it forward in an awkward kamehama fashion. The wobbly sphere of death collides with Luis, dealing incredible damage. The ghost shrugs it off though, and creates another terrifying earthquake.

    King - -6PP, -18HP // -8PP, -1HP, -15HP - Luisenbarn

Quite disoriented, King pulls himself together and electrifies the ghost with a powerful torrent of electricity. Luis accepts the attack, and hits the ground once more.

    King - -10PP, -18HP // -8PP, -15HP, -2HP - Luisenbarn

Definitely feeling like he's at the end of his rope, Thrashypants fires off another shadow ball, but ultimately caves in to Luis' final earthquake.

As King hits the ground, the song changes once again. Luis no longer feels the song's stylish boosts.

    King - -6PP, -13HP // -8PP, -15HP, -2HP, -3 Atk, -3 Def - Luisenbarn
